I’m having too much fun with this!

I’ve been working on this every morning and I never seem to want to put it down! So much fun! Anyone else working on a grandmother’s flower garden?

Yes!
I started one about 5 years ago. It's not finished but a fun project for movie watching, etc.
Yours looks great! It's fun, isn't it?

I haven't gotten mine out in awhile but it's not exactly a GFG. It's just random- still pretty though.

I have always admired English Paper Piecing but have never had the courage to try it. My hand sewing skills are basic beyond some fiddly embroidery stiches.

Looking good! Hand work is always enjoyable for me but I have not tackled a large EPP project.

SusieQOH 02-17-2022 11:18 AM

Logcabin- maybe you can answer this question.
How do you finish them? I'm assuming using a bias binding? I honestly have never seen a GFG that I can recall.
Thanks

I love doing EPP while watching tv or to take while travelling. I have so many hexies, but have always been intimidated by making a huge quilt out of all the 1" pieces. Here's an example of what I am turning mine into (but what to do with them now?). And yes, so much fun!

Those owls are really cute!
Mine are larger hexies. I'd say about 3 or 4 inches. Now I want to get them out and make some more!
I probably have half a quilt worth done.

beautiful owls

I am having fun too. I started for something to do when we went to South Africa 2 years ago with the long flights and waiting time in different airports. Now, what to do with them? They are 1/2 inch.
Now I realize I should have make them a lot bigger lolll
how will I quilt them? etc
Now and since the pandemia started it became a TV time project.and kind of designing as I go. I have no idea how big it will get.
but it is so much fun I don't really care. They might end up as appliqués for grocery bags

I have not posted any pictures yet so I don't know if it will work but I'll try

There’s no such thing as ( Too much Fun) when it comes to stitching. 🤗

To LAF2019 - I'll take the orange one please.

WMUTeach 02-18-2022 04:59 AM

Helou, those are lovely. I have not seen hexies used like that before. Too small or not they make a beautiful project.

helou 02-18-2022 05:48 AM

Thank you WMUTeach
Well I have a problem loll
I get bored doing the same pattern over and over (except making the hexies of course) so... I try to combine different patterns in one to keep interested. All I can say is that I am sure there is more to come loll

I’m not doing that pattern, but I love English paper piecing. And it’s really addictive!

Karamarie 02-18-2022 07:20 AM

I love hexies - the small ones anyway. I just completed a large queen size 5" hexie quilt. I would show it but I can't seem to post pixs anymore - I've tried everything. Mine are all more bright springy fabrics, a lot have flowers. It looks great but I will never never ever tackle large hexies sewn on the machine again. Hated those Y seams. I do small projects with the small hexies and enjoy the hand sewing of them. Love the look of yours.

I am not doing one now but as you can see from my Avatar I made a King Size GMFG a number of years ago. It was all made by hand and hand quilted.
Have fun with your quilt.

I think I would applique them on to squares and make a wall hanging. They would brighten up any room. Now I want to make Owls.

Hexies are my fav past time. Though I don't run a stitch through the paper piece, to me it's not needed and that's just more work to undo later. Hope to see it finished.

Jingle 02-19-2022 01:41 PM

All of the above hexies are beautiful. My hands can't do hand work anymore.

It really is addictive! I did a hexie scrappy a few years ago and I would come home from work every day and work on it. It was a great wind down from my day.

I love the owls!! So cute!

pamelor 02-21-2022 11:05 AM

hexagons!

I started doing these before ever making a quilt. They are 3/4 inch size and I didn't have enough for a quilt so I ended up appliqueing them to a placemat. It was fun! But very time-intensive for a whole quilt.

fatsewcat 02-23-2022 07:29 PM

This is going to be gorgeous when it is finished! a bucket list quilt for me.
