On Saturday I received a quilt top from a friend of a friend, etc.
Too long of a story to get into. The quilt was started by a lady in aprox. 1985, according to a fabric receipt in the bag.
She has passed from cancer 10 years ago.
It is an all white quilt, 12 blocks. Pieced after the blocks were quilted. There is one border she had started quilting, still has the hoop, threaded needle. All that is left is to hand quilt the borders and stitch them to the quilt top. I am so excited to receive such a quilt.
But apprehensive because I am not a hand quilter.
I just hope I can finish this quilt for the original quilter.

This project will certainly give you lots of practice! The quilt is beautiful and it's wonderful that you want to finish it in honor of the lady that started it.

This will become an heirloom. Stunning work. Be sure to include history on label

You'll be a hand quilter when you complete this. Love the photo of how you received it. I think I would make a large size of this & hang it on the wall of my sewing room. It's just a beautiful sight for any quilter. Maybe a little staging & some creative lighting.

Wow, that is so special! You were blessed!

Her spirit will live on through this quilt...Beautiful...!!

Wow! The workmanship in this is just lovely! I am sure you will be able to complete it no problem. Hand quilting is not difficult just goes slow. It is nice to have handwork laying around to pick up and work on while watching TV. If you have not handquilted before I would recommend you try a few practice sandwiches and then you will be able to complete this beauty.

Give it a whirl. By the time you complete it, you will be a hand quilter and proud of your work.

wow what a challenge! i agree that you should give it a shot - your hand quilting will be mastered by the time you are finished with this.... what an honor to the person who started this quilt...

Just take the time to talk with a hand Quilter that is local to you these ladies are always willing to share there talent/knowledge. We have a lady who only and I mean only hand quilts.

Thanks for all the positive feedback from everyone.
I'll have to do some research and lots of practice before I
feel comfortable enough to tackle the hand quilting. Pieces
