It seems like in sewing I do what I do in cooking....look at the directions and then say....mmm but I want to do it a little different.

Here's my effort at a bow tuck this afternoon. I've already got my machine scheduled for a service and boy does it show that I really need it worked on.

The cow purse is to hold some "moola".

The springy little tote is what I ended up with when I kept looking at pictures and thought " I can do that too but want it smaller". Duh, I didn't take the edges into account correctly when I "shrunk" the sizes in my mind. I didn't have pattern to go from when I did it.

Now I have the actual pattern and still didn't follow directions. I wanted the handles to go all the way down the front sides of the pockets so there'd be more "cow" showing.

My moola bow tuck

I used a cloudy plastic for the inside pockets that I saw someone else use

I liked how the handles looked going all the way down to the edging

My no pattern trial

I only put 1 pocket on one side since it was so small

very cute

they look great to me. I understand about 'changing' the pattern. Guess we are too independent.

Your bags look great! I like the fact that you made the bags your own ... perfect!

My rules that I live by, whether cooking or sewing, is that I will follow a recipe once. After that it's all up to me, and my imagination!

Man, I really need to try one of these.

The only recipes I follow are those left by my brother. He had already "messed" with the original, and he was GOOD!

I love your bags/purses. I love the cow material. I also think your pre pattern purse came out just as nicely as the one with the pattern. You do nice work!!

Cute totes :D:D:D

Good job! I keep thinking I should be able to make one without a pattern, but probably won't. I'm quickly learning my " on my own designing" doesn"t work so well anymore. And I'm too cheap to buy a pattern!LOL

Love the bow tucks. Patterns are like a recipe, its just a suggestion. You can change anything to your taste.

love the long handles..they will add extra support if you carry lots of "necessities

Hi moonwork, I love your moola bag!! I made my daughter a purse liner for Christmas & changed the pattern because I thought it would be nice to be a bit bigger but forgot that I had made her a purse earlier that was smaller...typical of my lame brain thinking when I am rushed. By the way, we used to have sweatshirts that said Paducah is halfway between Possum Trot & Monkey's Eyebrow. My husband grew up in Paducah. We have a place on Lake Barkley & go through Possum Trot to take my machine to English's for tuneups.

I like 'em both :)

That's where I'll have my DH drop off my machine next Friday when he gets home. They've always been so nice and friendly..not pushy at all. Took DH into there on Saturday and he was drooling over the Pfaff long arm...I'm 1/2 worried it will be the house when I get home Friday, lol.

Thanks to everyone for the kind words...I was really kind of scared to tackle one of these and I ain't skeered of nuttin!
