Love your barn quilt and it was a bonus to see your beautiful yard.

So many of you are making such nice comments about the yard! Thank you! My DH will be overjoyed!

I love it! Barn quilts must be a New England element, you don't see them in Michigan or in Kentucky - come to think of it, I don't think I've seen them in Indiana or Ohio, or at least you don't see them from the interstates. I'm going to show my husband, I want one on my horse barn!

Is you quilt painted on wood or steel?

Believe it or not, ours is painted on cabinet grade birch plywood (expensive!!). DH said he had to buy it for another project anyway. The gentleman who painted it said it needn't be such fine material. He said it could even be done on Luan. Another quilter here suggested painting on sheet metal.

I like it very much. Did you make it or pick it out?

Not sure what you mean....I drew up the block on graph paper, selected the paints from what was available, and our friend painted it!

Curious as to what your friend painted it on..plywood or something else? Is it sealed for the weather or does the paint do that? I'd enjoy making my own, but don't know even the basics of such a thing. Yours is certainly beautiful and just sets off the beautiful yard.

It's on plywood (see previous post). Our friend has done several, using Rustoleum or Ex-o-Rust (?).
From his experience, it should be good for maybe 3 years before needing touching up. I wish it would last longer, but that's ok, I like to paint. It is glossy paint. Glossy shows flaws more than flat, but I think it is more weather resistant than flat paint.
