I don't think I ever saw a feed sack when I was little. I am sure I saw dresses made with them and didn't realize it. Most of my relatives had farms.
I remember hearing the stories about clothing being made with the sacks and how the ladies chose the bags with something in mind. Your samples are really colorful and interesting prints. I thought they were just calico prints. |
I have over 500 feed sacks I had passed down to me from family members which I am making quilts for them. The colors are awesome, what fun to work with. I will never get to use all of them.

We also used the flour sacks for dish towels. And the sugar sacks for extra fine embroidered 'Sunday' towels. We never had feed sacks,I guess because we did not have chickens. But my Grandfather made floor mats from the binder twine used for bales. Great for wiping snow or mud off your boots.

I remember my ,mother talking about feedsacks for clothing when she was a child. I don't have any as of yet, but am looking for some , as I am going to cut up my parents clothing , which I have saved for quilts for the families, and would like to ad some feedsacks into them. Yours are beautiful.
