I think my husband is finally convinced this quilting thing just might stick. He is "almost" ready to build me my sewing room. Right now it is the extra bedroom and has our desk with a lap top on it. Recently the lap top is on the dining room table, which is currently my sewing room!

So. . the question is, if you could have any table built for your sewing room, what would it look like? Please post pictures if possible. I want to be sure I don't go too small - or too big :)

I use a dining room table. It works great, I have plenty of room to sew and lay projects out on it.

This is a table my hubby made me when we lived in Florida. I LOVED it. I would flip it around though so the long part is on the other side. It will support the quilt that way.
(the pic was taken after we sold the house and were packing up to move home. The blotches on the walls were to repair the holes from my fabric shelves and tool peg board. Oh how I miss that room!)

You will want something that you can sink your machine into so that you have a flat surface for quilting. A lift system is nice so that it can be raised to table height for sewing things like sleeves in clothes.
I have a table with a lift system and also a hinged piece in the back I can lift up to have an even larger surface to quilt on. I also have a pullout on the left side that is great to help with the weight of a larger quilt when quilting.

Wow, thanks for starting this thread, I love the different photos of tables, I am thinking of taking down the twin bed in extra bedroom, as no one comes to stay the night and put a big table in there instead, hummmm

I have a drop-leaf cherry dining table for my sewing table. One of the leaves is dropped though....it covers the plug-ins, because when we moved into our house my dd was little and still trying to "plug things in". Then we had DS, and HE wanted to start pluggin things in, lol. They're both older and wiser, so I may get more space soon.

Shop a Flea market if you want good tables for cheap. That's where I got my "sewing table" and "computer desk" which is an old library table, each for less than $50.

He is going to build it for me. Based on the space I used in the dining room, I think we have a pretty good idea. He is going to make the machine level with the top, but other than that I don't know what to ask for! I know I want the machine on the right side so there is room on the left for both fabric as I work and cutting. I am working out the ironing area - and am still not sure. Right now I use a towel on the floor by the dining room table. Very sad I know, but I don't like to pull out the big board.

Here is the setup hubby did for me - we took 2 computer tables, and made a cutout in one to drop my machine in. The neat part is that he attached an LED light strip on the end of the shelf the machine sits on - absolutely fantastic for paper piecing!
