Last Sunday, I participated in a Jelly Roll Race on the 1 Choice 4 Quilting blog. (http://blog.1choice4quilting.com)
It was sure a LOT of fun!! Basically, you start with one jelly roll of fabric. I picked 20 different fabrics from my stash & cut my own, cutting 2 strips of each one. First you sew all 40 strips end to end, so you have ONE STRIP, 2.5" by approximately 1600":!: Now you're ready to "race"! Find the two ends of your mega-strip, and fold it, right sides together, and stitch. Just before you get all the way to the folded end, cut thru' the fold, and then finish your seam. Do the same thing, folding it in half & sewing it for a total of 5 times....and you're done! You now have a quilt top, about 48"X64". :D I did mine while I was watching TV, and the "race" part took me about an hour & 45 minutes. I will definitely do this again! sorry it's sideways! Sounds like a fun and quick way to sew a scrappy top.

Is this the one you have to cut off several inches of the 1st fabric before sewing?

ho-ho! i just read this pattern [i forget where] and liked it immensely .... more, now that i've seen yours. i clicked it into my bucket list to make. will applique a flower branch and bird on top of it when i get around to making it

Wouldn't that be cute with all pastels and a white bunny rabbit appliqued on top or all red/white christmas with a big green christmas tree with a gold star on top. The possibilities are endless. Very cute!

I do laugh when I look at it - as had I carefully arranged my strips before I knew the next direction, making sure that the reds & yellows were separated....LOL Then when I sewed, they moved around on their own & clumped together! Next time I believe I'll just put 'em all in a bag & sew them together willy-nilly!! |
