It is made out of wool bak and front and has those fabulous stiches. I need to sew where it was cut so it will stopraveling. I love the colors. i will probably use as a lap quilt for myself. I love it!!! a full shot of it close up of the blocks and stiching where it was cut. |

Oh, you are so lucky! I am allergic to wool.......
|
Great find. I think I'd add a binding all around to secure the edge,
|
Great fine.

Great find there. My grandmother made wool quilts (anything she could find went into quilts) & they were so warm. Enjoy! I lived in San Antonio for 2 yrs & we went to a flea market every Sunday for awhile. Nice areas to shop there North, going toward Austin (back in early 80s).

Great find. Glad is was rescued. You will stay warm with that lap quilt.
|
What a great find! Is the blocks stitched together, then the embroidery done or it the embroidery stitches all that is holding it together?
Only once did I find such a great bargain. I was in a antique shop and saw some crochet peeking out from under something else. I could see that it was the pineapple pattern. Much to my surprise when I got it out and looked at it....it was a 70 inch round tablecloth! the price was $5.95 |
How lucky you are!
|
What a great find!!

They are stiched and then the decortive stich was added.

I've rescued a couple of old quilts from thrift stores before and what a good feeling to become the new owner!!!!!

I love to rescue things like that   |
What is the stitch called? It's very striking on the colorful wool. That should keep you very warm!!
|
Unsure maybe the feather stitch. I think it is the same stich used on crazy quilts.
|
That is the herringbone stitch.
|
Thanks for the information Barb

|
Great find!
|
What a great buy.

Someone put a lot of time and effort into that project. I bet they will be glad it has a new home where it will be loved and appreciated. :)

Gorgeous quilt - glad it was rescued. I know you'll enjoy it.
I have a quilt my grandmother made in crazy quilt pattern. I has velvet, silk, satin, cotton - you name it! Some areas need repair, but so delicate. It is stitched to muslin squares but pieces are not square and different embroidery stitching all over. It will fit a full size bed. It's definitely a treasure to me. Kay |
will you line the back with something or leave the wool on the back as well?
it looks like someone used bits of coats or had access to wool samples, doesn't it? my aunt used to cut into coats after her three girls all wore them and all outgrew them. they all became blankets in upstate new york. |
I am going to close the opening where it was cut and leave the wool that it has on the back. What is a woo quilt doing in hot Texas??????
|
I have several old beat up quilts that I have bought online and in thrift stores. I just love that they would have such fantastic stories to tell. Some dear lady quilter put her love of her family into those quilts, and I love having them hang around my house. Yours is just wonderful! I love the colors, and those stitches are great!!
|
It's a beauty. Great find and will be useful for years to come.
|
SCORE! Great day for you enjoy!

Great deal and a wonderful bargain. Happy snuggling!!

Someone did a lot of stitching on this quilt. Glad you found it.

I should be finishing up my doll quilt swap to get into the mail; but, a neighbor gave me a couple of really old, beat up cutter quilts and I was up 'til midnight and again early today cutting into one. It was a complete double side - one side with fairly yukky (but old) squares of anything and everything fabrics; the other side with triangles of more interesting fabrics. The two sides were sort of bound together and were tied. The surprise came when I found two old dresses used inside the two outsides. One was still hemmed. I guess they just puzzled fit garment pieces in to use as batting. Very interesting. Looks like 30's or 40's dresses, mostly handsewn.
