I should name it "The Whale"

I say this because I have been "fighting" this heavy, stiff quilt (queen) for days now and it feels as if I have been wrestling a whale.

I know it isn't true but I feel as though anything and everything that could have gone wrong with this quilt did. I started this quilt over a year ago and then had to put it away. Doing so meant that my next strip cuts and seams were not the same. Had to remove them and do them over again. Decided to do QAYG (which I loved doing on the blocks) and had to bury all of the points as they did not end up even similar to each other. I decided to use Glo In The Dark thread for quilting and when I pressed my sashing on the first two blocks, I melted the GID thread. Had to carefully pick it away from the fabric and use regular thread. Got to the borders and the wrestling match began. They are done. Whew! I decided to use the Glo In The Dark thread to quilt my GGD name into the design of both top and bottom borders so that when she turns out the lights, she will see her name. Thus I am naming this quilt "Mystery of the Hidden Wells Quilt".

Excellent quilt!

Hope you keep it up. Just use the rule of the galloping horse.

Hang the quilt up and ride by on a galloping horse. If you can't see the problem as you pass by it is not worth fixing. (LOL).

Oh you did wonderful work. Cant' believe the Glow in the Dark thread melted. Good to know I guess. Lovely quilt girl!!!

DebraK 12-10-2013 11:01 AM

honestly, I think you are too hard on yourself. The quilt looks great

Looks good to me. Sorry you had issues, but I know that sometimes they just happen. I tried four times to get two seams to nest properly and they have defied me all the way. I am now ready to try again. A good night's sleep helps.

Looks good now! Thanks for the heads up on the glow in the dark thread melting when pressed. I would ask what brand it was BUT the moderators would probably delete it. Can you PM me please.

Very very nice. Curious about the Glo-in-the-dark thread, is it difficult to quilt with?

SheriR 12-11-2013 05:16 AM

I think it's beautiful! I've had this pattern in my head to make! Fun idea to use glow in the dark thread.

Joyce, I found it to be just like any other thread, however, it comes on a tube that has a very wide hole in the bottom so that it does not fit on a sewing machine spindle. I had to use my stand-alone spindle.

raspberryparade09 12-12-2013 04:33 AM

Beautiful, I really like your colors.

Is there a pattern that you started with?

toverly 12-12-2013 04:43 AM

It may be a whale but it's beautiful! I love your name for it also. Great job!

Yooper32 12-12-2013 05:40 AM

Your beautiful quilt gave me a great laugh. after reading of your struggles with it, I looked at the pic and with my bad eye-sight, I thought you had written something that ended in "'til I die". I hadn't made out the E.

Emma S 12-12-2013 06:18 AM

Truly a lovely quilt! Sorry you had problems but it is really worth the struggle. Congrats on sticking with it.

gabeway 12-12-2013 08:01 AM

Awesome job!

AZNance 12-12-2013 08:10 AM

Your quilt looks wonderful! Like a lot of things, those quilts that make us work longer on them, we remember the most. I have a Christmas round robin quilt like that, and I can tell a 10 minute story about all the things that went wrong and are still wrong....but, I still use it on my bed every year! It makes me smile.

MargeD 12-12-2013 11:23 AM
