I spy

This was made for the son of a friend. He calls it his son's "road trip" quilt. I love the panel my DH picked out for the back and the skinny gray/white stripe he picked out for the "jar lids". It looks like the real jar lids.

That is too, too cute and with map it is a perfect road trip quilt.

Just made one and wished I had seen yours first. LOVE the skinny stripe for the jar lids. Great idea to keep a little one busy in the car!

How cute is THAT! I've never seen an I Spy jar quilt. I'm inspired. And the grey stripe really is perfect as lids. Your hubby's pick for the educational backing is terrific. Good teamwork!

You and your husband did a great job! Really like the map of the US on the back.

jmoore 09-07-2016 03:06 AM

Very creative and it looks like you put a lot of hours into it. Great job.

I enjoyed the I spy jars. What a shame that someone doesn't make a panel with all different patches of things so you could use them for I Spy Quilts. Having to purchase that many little pieces of fabric must be difficult. Just my opinion.

Great idea and would be the perfect solution to have a printed panel and several different ones for good variety. Bet they would fly off the shelves for us not wanting to do the 'hunt' for enough to make a nice size quilt.

Fabulous quilt! It will give hours of enjoyment to the recipient. Nice work.

donna873 09-07-2016 04:47 AM

Cute quilt! Like the blue BG too. I just love it when our spouses give their input....and for him to come up with a stripe for the lid ?? They DO care what we do.......big smile on my face.........

A couple years ago I purchased an assorted charm pack arranged with novelty prints in order A - Z. They were great! I purchased them from: http://www.ethelbird.com/pre-cuts/ however they only have a stack of hexies now that measure almost 5" on the straight edge. I emailed them and they said they hope to carry the charm packs again soon, so keep looking. Maybe hexies would work for some patterns, including the bug jars????

I love it! What a great idea putting the map on the back.

There was an eye-spy panel out a few years ago. I bought several to make quilts for kids. I saw a couple listed on eBay and also charm packs of I Spy squares.

There are a lot of charm packs and a layer cake, but I got most of mine by doing swaps here on the board. There is a regular I spy quilt swap, I just got my most recent one back - sent in 16 bags of 10 and got back 160 different prints. Sometimes there is an additional twist with a them. I made myself a queen size I spy which has almost 600 blocks in it for kids to play with when they come to visit. I think I have more fun with it than they do!

Beautiful quilt and I love the use of the stripe for the Jars. I may have to steal that idea for my canning jar quilt for the kitchen if I ever get it made!
