That is absolutely stunning. A couple of questions: What are you using for batting? and what did you draw the d esign with? Will be looking forward to the finished project. I did one of those, but it was a pre-print. What does the other side look like?

huntannette 10-27-2012 12:06 PM

WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!that is going to be a treasure!!!!

Vanuatu Jill 10-27-2012 12:08 PM

It is simply (well, not SIMPLY!!) exquisite!! Please keep posting your progress on it!!

Amazing work, but when looking at the picture of the entire work, in the upper right corner, it looks like batting only, is there no backing material? I'm confused by this, and fascinated!

The quilt isn't completed yet and what you see is just the front side of the quilt. The open edges with batting and backing are invisible on the picture.

Could you do a tute on how you do those stitches? They don't appear to be just a straight quilting stitch. Also another tute about how you do a design.

I have posted some pictures of how I hand quilt a few months ago, you can find it here:

http://www.quiltingboard.com/tutoria...g-t142087.html

Maybe that helps...

It think it is impossible to write a tutorial of how I design a quilt. There are no rules! A quilt top of a solid fabric is like a playground for me or comparable to the canvas for a painter. Everything is possible. I am a person who loves balance, simplicity, repeat and order in my designs and of course you can see it here. But to write down a step-by-step-instruction of how to create a almost perfect quilt design seems impossible to me. So sorry...

The batting I use here is Hobbs Heirloom 80/20. I really like it because it's easy to needle while quilting and has a very nice drape with a quite traditional look.
The patterns are marked with a darning needle, just "scratched" in. You find some further information here:

The backing is pretty flower print. I will take some pictures and post them later.

GORGEOUS! I have yet to try my hand at a wholecloth quilt, but have always wanted to do one. I don't think I'm brave enough to design my own. You are doing a fabulous job and your quilt is beautiful.

I just have to say that every time I see your screen name on the QB, I know that it will be the most superb hand quilting ever. This morning when I saw your board name on the front page, I said to my husband, "You will have to look at this quilting; it is absolutely stunning." Then I opened the page and we sure weren't disappointed. IT IS STUNNING!!!
