It IS a rectangle. Ruthy's parents obviously need practice imitating a quilt frame.

I forgot to get them to turn it around so you could see the completed back. Altogether, it's 6 x 8 blocks. the binding makes a two-inch border for the back.

the gray fabric doesn't actually have any pink tones mixed in. that's what happens when the light bounces off the lame' in the star. an unexpected bonus.

I promise, it's a rectangle. big enough to use as anything between a to-the-floor bedspread on a twin and a hangs-almost-to-the-bottom-of-the-mattress on a queen. in other words ... that sucker is BIG!

That is beautiful. I love gray/pink combination.

beachlady 04-19-2008 07:18 AM

Beautiful. I will probably never be able to do anything like that, so all I can do is admire it from afar.

patricej 04-19-2008 07:20 AM

thanks very much. it's one of the very few quilts i've ever made that i wasn't completely sick of by the time i got halfway through. there was a bit of seperation anxiety when i had to hand it over.

I've used lame in small, very sturdily interfaced amounts before, and quilted carefully AROUND them I cannot imagine doing a whole quilt like that! You really have patience.

kathy 04-19-2008 07:34 AM

I just can't get over how the pink reflects, I wonder if it looks like that on her bed. Kind of a long name for a quilt ! but it is absolutely gorgeous! You and Tim and Ruthy can all be proud

patricej 04-19-2008 07:39 AM

you should be proud, too. for putting up with all my whining as i slogged through to the end. :P

kathy 04-19-2008 07:43 AM

you'll be getting a bill for that part!

Thanks all. :P

I did fuse the lame to a lightweight innerfacing. after that it was just like working with any other fabric that doesn't stretch. (at all, so you had better cut it right the first time. )

The light gray squares aren't lame. They're Platinum Fairy Frost from Michael Miller's line.

I didn't quilt through either one. the back is quilted in the ditch. I attached the top using tiny back stitches, through just the batting, about every half inch in those ditches. for some reason, i just couldn't bring myself to "disturb" the main gray areas with quilting that showed.

the whole thing went through a machine wash and dry like a champ. (what a relief!!! it's tough to hold your breath that long! )

What a beautiful piece of work Patrice! You did Tim's star proud. :) I love the pinks and grays and the stitching is lovely. I like what you did around the star. I'd never get tired of staring at that quilt!! :)
