I love this fabric but I cannot for the life of me visualize a pattern for it. If it "speaks" to you, please let me know what it says. :)> Thanks

The colors do not come through as bright as they are in real life, but the 4 solids exactly match colors in the floral stripe.

I personally ONLY use striped fabrics in a border. So I'd be choosing a block pattern only for those pretty marble fabrics..then add the strip as sashing and borders!

OMG< I have the perfect idea!!!!!!!! send it to ME!
it's BEAUTIFUL and paisely is my all time favorite

erstan947 09-04-2010 07:44 AM

My first thought was to use the solids in a block and the stripe in sashing and borders. Beautiful fabrics. Anything you do it will be beautiful.

Mariposa 09-04-2010 07:47 AM

How about a "strip-y" quilt with the flowers as sashings?
Beautiful fabrics too!

lynnie 09-04-2010 07:48 AM

a stack and wackout of the stripes and the solids as settings.or... do a block and use the stripes, fussy cut on the diagonal for a corner block

How wide is each floral stripe in the print fabric? If it was me, I would be trying to cut the floral part for the center of stars , use the blenders for the star points, and then cut the small floral strips and the paisley strips for sashing and borders, but again ,I tend to think of the hard way to get things done, so take this with a grain of salt from a beginner quilter :)

Actually, now I want that fabric, the picture is brewing in my head. LOL.

The floral is 3.75" the other 2 stripes are 2" each.
Good idea.

Fussy cut those stripes and then make traditional log cabins with coordinating fabric as the light side. I saw this on Fons and Porter just this morning. Looked super, although they did their center cut as a diamond rather than a square. A bit detailed for me but beautiful in any event. Post what you end up doing and good luck.

I really like log cabin blocks--I just might try this.

Love the fabrics you chose.
An idea: use the floral strips as squares on point alternating with 4 or 9 patches of the marbled fabric as the light and squares of the small floral as the dark.
Pick one more fabric or one of the marbles as setting triangles.
Use the paisley as the alternating strips.
Be a nice bright quilt in a very traditional setting.
Check out Bobbie A Aug's vertical quilts book for more ideas.
Love that book. Also love the log cabin blocks idea.
It's going to be gorgeous no matter what you do. And looking at that spectacular avatar, it's hard to imagine you ever being stuck for an idea.
Glad it happens to everyone, even the most accomplished. There's still hope for me LOL!
Happy quilting!

I would cut apart each section and use them as sashing and/or borders! :-)

Pineapple Princess 09-04-2010 09:38 AM

What about a turning twenty block with sashing strips?

That was my first idea too. Or pinwheel blocks with the pinwheels in the stripe and the settings in the other fabrics. If you have enough, use the stripe in the borders too.

:)

Tube blocks?

http://tutorials.missouriquiltco.com/

Instead of sewing 2 1/2" strips, just cut strips the width of the stripe, then cut a plain strip the same width. You could get a mitered block!

chuckle, chuckle! You are so outrajous. Wow that sure doesnt look like it's spelled right. Is it outragous? Anyhow, I love all the fabs and also dont know how I would use them.

magpiefeather 09-04-2010 12:25 PM

I would make a lone star with the darkest shade in the center and on the points...and cut the roses stripe for the border....

Alien Quilter, what a totally cool idea for that sort of print. I'm going to try it with some similar stuff. Thanks for the inspiration!

Love the fabric. Normally I am not a black person, but this is gorgous. I see two off the top of my head ideas. A kaladiecope or cutting the floral and the paisley into a 5 06 in block on point alternating your solids for setting. Other suggestions of using this as center of star is also a great idea.

What ever you do will be beautiful. I'll take it.

barnbum 09-04-2010 02:15 PM

Hmmm... well maybe make a block of the solids in strips and cut them into squares, then cut the one that's your favorite in squares to match the size of the block of strips--then alternate them in a lay out. I've done this pattern twice and am doing one now... I don't know how the blocks would look with the "solid" block being striped...

Good luck deciding. I can't wait to see what you decide.

I can see this as a one block wonder with the cubes added out of the tone-on-tone fabrics.

That is exactly what I did--that is, cut the stripes apart. Then I used some in log cabin blocks and think will use more as sashing--I made 24 10" blocks today while watching college football (our team won). I've made 6 star blocks out of them (20" aprox size blocks). I think I'm going to do enough to make 3 more star blocks so I can make a bigger quilt. I'll post pictures later.

I really appreciate all the feed-back. It got me off dead-center!
