What a fun quilt. You did a great job.
If you think the quilt will get a lot of loving I would quilt it by going both ways on the diagonal but stop at the flip flops. That way they would pop! I am a hand quilter but I quilted a beautiful Baltimore Alblum appliqued sampler for a client just that way. I quilted about 1/16 of an inch around each motif and then a diagonal crisscross all over the rest of the quilt. She was planing on taking very good care of it but that is basically the way the original Baltimore Alblums were done. With today's batting we don't really need to quilt that close but your still could just an inch or more apart not quarter or half inch like the old time quilters. |
Would you diagonal quilt just inside the squares (on the gold) or go across the sashing too? Thanks to everyone for their suggestions!!

If you quilt across the sashing too, then it will make the sashing "recede" along with the background and all the flip flops will "pop". It depends on what effect you would like to achieve with your quilting. I hope that this makes sense to you. |
It does--thanks sooooooooooo much for your input!!!

so cute. I love flip flop quilts. Stitch in the ditch would be great. Maybe go around the flip flops too.
