Good for you on quitting smoking!! I've heard that's one of the hardest things to do. Quilting will help keep your hands busy and it's such fun!

Hi Kathy and welcome from AZ. I've sewn my whole life but I'm new to quilting in many ways too. Quilting has many new techiques not used in garment sewing but if you start out quilting you'll be able to do anything! Welcome and use the board for all the advice you need the knowledge is certainly here. :-D :-D :-D
