This is different... we had a thread a while ago about the quilt where you sew two circles right sides together, cut a slit and turn them right sides out and then sew them together on the straight edges of the inscribed square. Then you press open those little semicircular pieces and stitch them down. I made a Nine patch (it's actually more a five-patch, technically speaking!) and lined it with muslin and interlined it with flannel. It's fun because when you are done, it's DONE.

I could also fold in those outside edges for a straight edge to the quilt.

Yes I remember that thread, was really taken with the idea of making a quilt that was finished as you go so to speak. What you have done is a really innovative use of the idea, Love it :-)

tia sarah 08-09-2007 07:44 PM

beautiful just beautiful, how long did this take you to finish.

SandraJennings 08-09-2007 07:46 PM

I really like how graphic it is! Hard to realize it is circles because of the secondary design...wonderful! :D

cynde 08-09-2007 08:55 PM

Did the original thread have a pattern, I love that quilt and have to make it?

live2teach 08-09-2007 09:01 PM

Thank you! I drafted a pattern for it, but I haven't typed it out yet. I will try to do that next week, and then I will post it for you. It honestly wasn't hard.

Flying_V_Goddess 11-19-2007 10:09 PM

I've seen another quilt with this pattern, but the triangle-square things didn't curve into the nice circles like they do in your quilt. Yours has a more elegant look. And I just LOVE those colors!

Patty44 04-10-2008 03:41 AM

That is so great,,,I would love to try that.. Did you just make that up or is there a pattern to with it?

Dawn Hendrix 04-10-2008 04:26 AM

DJ 04-10-2008 05:34 AM

Jaynie 04-10-2008 06:02 AM

Cathe, that is really pretty~~I have seen patterns for those in magazines and thought I wanted to try...Yours is so much prettier than any I've seen.

Patty44 04-10-2008 07:20 AM

I would love tohave the pattern. I loved making the rag quilts because when you are done thats it,other than throwing them in washer and dryer. That is amazing ai love it...

beachlady 04-10-2008 08:07 AM

So glad when older posts come back around. Love this quilt - did you ever post the instructions? Would love to have them! Thanks!!

twistedstitcher 04-10-2008 08:26 AM

Wow, i love your quilt cathe!!! That's exactly what ive been in the middle of trying to make for my daughter, and am soooo up to my armpits in circles, ive decided to use the fabricsw for scraps, and start something else...rggg, but looking at yours, yours is so beautiful! I tried making mine with dif coloured circles, and didnt like how it was going, but seeing it with all the same colour circles is so nice! :)

Harmony 05-13-2008 03:16 PM

I've seen a vendor at quilt shows that sells stuff to make this quilt. The quilts are all beautiful, but the stuff she sells (templates and books) is EXPENSIVE. If you do a tutorial, I'd love to try it!

Thats spectacular! I'm working on one with 30's repro fabric. Did you use the medium size circles? You did a great job!

I remember seeing that tute... the slits are cut where you won't see them when you turn over the rounded edge to make the inner curve of the window. The slit will be under the curve and you don't even have to stitch the slit shut because it's hidden inside.

This is so cool. Love the way you left the border (edge) unturned for a new and cool look to this pattern. This is one that is in my UFO pile. I may pull it out next. The cool thing about this pattern is there is no finishing required. When You think it's done, It is! As many blocks as you want.
