One of my hobbies has been calligraphy (lovely script), so I just drew these. There are a vast number of printed scripts available, many specifically for artwork. I think Dover Press has a book of them. Sign makers and other woodworkers books commonly have alphabets. In Victorian times, these were a standard on women's work.
Yes, this is needleturn. It is not trapunto, where the stuffing comes from the back after the applique. I cut a piece of medium weight poly to shape and basted it to each letter before doing the applique. I am not sure if this is any easier than regular trapunto.
My original plan was to have the prairie points on all 4 sides, but I decided 2 would be as effective. BTW, the flange and points are also from the same piece of fabric as the initials.
