I am making two bags for host gifts. I have all ready topped stitched one of the two panels for the first bag in black thread. (photos attached) So I will finish that bag in black. The black thread shows on the black fabric better in the photo then in person because of the flash. I am wondering if gray thread would look better because it would show up better on the black fabric.

So here are the questions in my mind I'm trying to answer:

Would gray thread look better?

Would gray thread look to soft?

Should I just do the second bag with black thread and not worry about loosing the pattern of the black thread on the black fabric?

With the colors you are using, either one will be fine. I actually LIKE my topstitching to show, so my preference would be for the black! :lol:

hmmm, was going to suggest using scrap and trying both colors,...what about using white? I am taking it, that you WANT your topstitching to show as an embellishment?

i use a thread that would not blend in.

i too like my top stitching thread to show beside i don't do any subtle.

I would go with a bright white or color that will show off your work. Love your fabrics they look fun :)

I'm afraid a white would be lost on the white fabric as the black is lost on the black fabric. That is why I am playing with the idea of gray. It would show on all of the fabrics. I not sure if gray would be to soft. I have light gray thread. I guess a dark gray might be better.

Yes, the stitch is an embellishment. So, I want it to show.

The black is okay, but.... Of course it might just be me looking at it to long. :D

Personally I would use black thread.

I think it depends on the look you are going after...black, grey or white would be pretty :D :D :D

If you want it to show, why not try red or yellow (on a scrap first, of course)?
