Do these colors look ok together, starting my second quilt...
Someone said the outer border takes over its not blue like in the picture its Turquoise..Do you think that will be ok or do I need to do something else..Even though everything is cut out.. And I must say this one is so much easier than the first one I did...hehe And there more to the quilt than just what you see... I hope it turns out ok.. |

They look great together but that outter border takes over!
Can the outer blue border be made smaller? I think it seems to "take over" because it is so much wider. That way the ony recutting you would have to do is to maybe cut it in half to make thinner strips. Just a thought.
I think you will find it is more interesting when you put it together, with the borders NOT being all the same width.
Thank you for your advice, I'm really new at this and scared not to follow the pattern as far as the cutting, so I will let it be and see what happens, I got most of this fabric from that Estate Sale so, if it don't turn out like I'm hoping at least I hadn't wasted to much money on it...LOL

i think i would cut down the width of the tourquoise border. great looking quilt.
I think they look good together, and I didn't think the turquoise border was taking over until someone else pointed it out, and then I thought well, maybe. But is there going to be sashing? A darker sashing might sort of reduce that effect, I think.
I love it as it is - I think it will make very interesting secondary patterns when it's all together. And I LOVE the little stripe in the red - the wide stripe picks up the same colour - makes it zing :)
I think it looks great, do some quilting on that wide border in a red or brown maybe to tone it down if you are not happy with it.
I say keep it as is. I like it
I agree with Franie..the blue border is kind of over powering. I would make it about 1/2 that size and maybe do the gold corners a little bigger..good luck..

I think it's fine once you assemble the blocks. I still have trouble with the visualization of a completed quilt and often panic after the blocks are made and before they're put together; the assembly does trim some off, and the secondary patterns that assembly creates (like the gold diamonds yours will have) make a huge difference.

Looking good!
Oh, I think the width of the aqua border balances the size of the central print. I say --- Go For It! :-)
Took a 2nd look to notice the orange corners. It's your $$,your work & your quilt,so if it looks good to you, go with it.
I am not good with color but I love the SW look!
I don't see a problem with anything about it. Not sure why it appears to have that particular border "taking over" to some people.
I think it's really pretty! I love the colors.
Looks very nice to me - your work, your colors. Sometimes we stress unnecessarily over what stands out, takes over, etc. I say, do what you like & don't fuss over what someone says. Forget about the quilt police & you'll have more fun.

very nice...southwestern look....like turquiose.
I been thinking what should I use for the quilting??? I have no ideal what to use...

That outer blue border just drowns out the rest.
Oh, I love it!! Very catching and looks just great. The turquoise keeps my eye moving to notice the other colors and the gold is just perfect. Great job and I can't wait to see it done.
Donna, I'm really liking it! That big border on the single block is now really showcasing both the patterned blocks and the gold squares - beautiful!

Hi Donna,
Thank you for sharing your quilting project. I am learning through your posting as I'm sure you are learning. I agree with others about the larger blue torguise border and the comments posted. With that said a smaller border may have worked out better. Also with the pattern chosen I would not choose a directional print in the future such as the red stripe. From the pictures the red stripe seems out of place. A striped pattern would possible work better having multiple stripes. I like the middle pattern though as it changes directions in each section of the block. This will definitely be a colorful quilt. Did you try to audition the fabrics together first. Sometimes it's best to make just one block to see out it looks put together in the block. Good luck with your project and keep us updated with pictures, of course! Pam M |
I think it's very pretty.

I like the colors & the fabrics you chose - quilts are an expression of yourself, not someone else's idea of beauty. Don't worry about the critics; go for what is eye-catching to you & just be pleased that you are making progress. It looks "south-westerny" in the style of Navaho to me.
