You may be asking, "Why is she showing us this one again?" This is my flaky project of adding another row to a quilt that I thought was completely done back in February. It was a lot of work, but I'm glad I did it. This took me a day and a half in addition to however long I spent making the additional row of blocks and quilting it, which I did some weeks ago. It took me that long to psych myself up to pick out an entire length of stitches between the last row and the brown border and then hold my breath and cut through the batting and backing.

It just didn't seem right to leave it big but not big enough for one of our beds. I feel it is going to be just as strong as it was. I sewed the front seams on the machine, and had those stitches go through the batting. Then I trimmed the batting where the previous batting edges met and tucked under the extra backing that I had left hanging over for that purpose. I attached that by hand, which took somewhere between 2-3 hours. Then there was some additional quilting to do along the borders, and finally adding the binding on the new area, which turned out to be pretty tricky. I made a tiny boo-boo when I was trimming the batting and cut a teeny hole in the backing. So when everything else was done I appliqued a little patch of the backing over the hole. It's a busy print, so probably nobody will notice. I'm not inviting any quilt police over any time soon. This is for a guest room where our young grandsons sleep when they visit. I hope they will enjoy looking at the assortment of fabrics as much as I enjoyed looking at scrappy quilts my grandmother made when I was a child.

Absolutely beautiful quilt. Sounds like something I would do. Haven't needed to yet.

Absolutely gorgeous! I'd love to look at that quilt while snuggling under it. Beautiful job of redoing.
I've taken out all of the quilting on one of my quilts. It didn't do anything for the quilt and all the piecing I had done. Best decision ever to redo. Hope you feel the same way.

Definitely a snuggle quilt!

You did a wonderful job and will never regret it. If, however, you had not enlarged it, you would cringe every time you walked in and saw it's shortness. Lovely quilt!

If you didn't finish that last row it would have annoyed you forever. Great job on your perseverance, the quilt is beautiful!

It has a label that just says "RP 2018", but that was already on there in February, in a corner. At least I didn't wait another 6 years and have to add a new date. :)

Thanks, everyone for all the positive words!

Great job on the quilt. Is this a Disappearing 4 patch pattern?

Thanks, Boston. Here is one of the blocks. I used this same design on all of them, and a feather design on the piano key border. Both were done on the embroidery machine. I got the designs from Embroidery Library. The brown border has a decorative stitch, also from my Baby Lock.

Thank you. You are absolutely right about the cringing. This top remained a UFO for several years, and when I finally got around to making it into a quilt I completely forgot why I'd put it aside. Ironically, it was because I had decided I wanted to make it bigger, but just didn't feel like it at the time because it already had the borders on it, and that seemed like such a bother. It would have been so much easier if I'd remembered that before quilting!

Since we all like to make quilts, it only makes sense to make them a size that we can use. I have two quilts that I made for our queen size bed and always have one of them as my bedspread.

leighway 05-10-2018 06:56 AM

Rose, I must have missed your original post with this lovely quilt. What is the pattern? I looks like one of the 'disappearing x patch" ones but I'd love to know...you did a great job on this and I love the fabrics...so, what's the pattern?

Iraxy 05-10-2018 04:53 PM

You are a brave and smart woman. Good job well done! Bravo

Rose_P 05-10-2018 09:31 PM

For those who asked, yes, it is a disappearing 4 patch. Thanks, again, all you good people!

Teen 05-11-2018 05:20 PM

Turned out awesome, Rose... Love the colors.

sprice 05-12-2018 05:51 AM

That was a true labor of love. Hope you and your grandchildren will enjoy it for many years to come!
