it may be tiny but it sure is cute!
BTW how tiny is it?

Cathe 09-19-2007 09:32 AM

PRETTY!!!

jumperfamily 09-19-2007 09:37 AM

I think it turned out to be about 34x36 - my mind is slippery when it comes to details. I decided not to put a border on it to make it bigger...she just wanted something to hang over the crib.

That is beautiful! I love the colors. My mother in law is working on one right now with similar colors. You did an excellent job!

ccbear66 09-19-2007 11:44 AM

Very pretty. Thanks for sharing. Was it hard to do. I really like these quilts and it is on my someday list.

ButtercreamCakeArtist 09-19-2007 11:46 AM

This one is also on my someday list!

ButtercreamCakeArtist 09-19-2007 11:48 AM

jumperfamily~
I really like this. YOu do really nice work!
If I ever get to one of these, it will probably be called something like "crumbling blocks".

Knot Sew 09-19-2007 11:50 AM

It sure doesn't look easy........I never tried one......no triangles, one of these days......lol good job :D :D

Steve 09-19-2007 12:15 PM

Nice! Which method did you use? I've seen tumbling blocks done a couple different ways, the most reasonable seems to be strip piecing.

jumperfamily 09-19-2007 01:59 PM

It always seemed like too much trouble to do tumbling blocks until I saw a brilliant person on TV (don't remember who) do it with the strip piecing / 60 degree angles method. There are no inset seams and it is a snap to put together. I don't have a pattern to link you to, I just watched and copied! It went together FAST. It took me as long to hand-stitch the binding as it did to piece the blocks.

Oh how pretty, I adore the tumbling block design. Love the blues, what a lucky little guy :D :D :D

Celeste 09-19-2007 09:03 PM

I'll have to try to find that strip piecing instructions. That sure is nice and such pretty colors!

BDor 09-20-2007 09:08 AM

I would love to have instructions to do that with strips. Have always wanted to do one but can't do y seams.

lin 09-20-2007 09:41 AM

That's so sweet jumper! I love the blues. So bright and cheerful. Good job!

mimisharon 09-20-2007 04:19 PM

BEAUTIFUL, Shelly!!!

Sure would like to have those instructions, too!!! I'll give a look tomorrow to see if I can find a link somewhere or a video somewhere.

Just adorable!!!

I did a quick google and this turned up in HGTV's Simply Quilts.

http://www.hgtv.com/hgtv/shows_qlt/article/0,,HGTV_3876_1751190,00.html

Does this look like the method you used jumperfamily?

jumperfamily 09-21-2007 08:06 AM

Yep, Celeste, that's pretty much it! Thanks for finding it.
Now I'm on to bigger and better. In fact, Lee, I'm about to attempt to duplicate the beautiful block in your avitar with my leftover bits of blue! (Hope you don't mind!)

Shelly, got the pattern out of Australia Patchwork & Quilting Annual 2005. I posted pictures of the Carpenter's Wheel already if you want to take a look at it. Just tweeked the pattern a little to change the dimensions.

That is beautiful and is on my "to do" list!
If you ever remember the link where you
found the "easy" way to put it together, let
us know.

sewjoyce 06-12-2009 12:26 PM

That quilt is just adorable!

KittyGram 06-12-2009 12:48 PM

Very nice!!! One of my favorite quilt patterns.

I'm a fairly new quilter, and much as I love tumbling blocks, it has been very intimidating. I And here you say you "popped it together"!!!! LOL!!!!

littlehud 06-12-2009 06:57 PM

That is so cute. I love the color and that is one of my favorite patterns.

Debbie1 06-12-2009 08:49 PM

That's very pretty!

sewhappy57 06-12-2009 11:40 PM

Very cute! This pattern is on my to do list. :D

Lacelady 06-13-2009 04:01 AM

If anyone finds the strip piecing method, please post it, as I have only done this pattern the English paper piecing way, which is time consuming. A quick way would be great.

Bevanger 06-13-2009 04:04 AM

I love it. GREAT JOB! :D

RedGarnet222 06-13-2009 08:20 AM

I love the illusion that the tumbling blocks make, don't you? This one turned out perfectly, in the blues you chose. Vey nice, jumperfamily.

kwhite 06-13-2009 08:43 AM

Instant?!?!! Looks very time consuming to me. Very nice job.

MadQuilter 06-13-2009 10:35 AM

Cool quilt!

sandpat 06-13-2009 12:42 PM

Love the way you just "popped" that one together!

db 06-14-2009 03:58 AM

Hi jumperfamily...
Are your tumbling blocks from the latest pattern from Marci Baker"Not your grandmothers tumbling blocks"....they are stipped piece, one of the quilts I'm working on now. Very pretty in all one color.

gaigai 06-14-2009 04:03 AM

Very pretty baby quilt!

jumperfamily 06-18-2009 05:40 AM

Actually I didn't use a pattern. I watched a quilt show and then copied what I saw. It was a strip-piecing method, tho, so It may have been Marci Baker I was watching!

Mousie 06-18-2009 07:38 AM

nice quilt! :D

mommaB 06-18-2009 08:07 AM

I have the "Not Your Grandmother's Tumbing Blocks" pattern. Its on my to-do   Maybe one day....

Diane007 09-24-2012 11:25 AM
