My brother asked me to make a case for his iPad II -- just a simple case with and wrist strap. He chose a color palette by looking at pictures of quilts I'd made but I decided on a simple design (strips, with wavy quilting).

Initially I'd hoped to use the mariner's compass pattern so I experimented with a pattern online -- determined I couldn't easily resize it for the iPad and just made it into a pillow cover. One error in the compass (yikes -- easy to get mixed up in paper piecing LOL) but I still like it.

Thanks for looking :-)

Like them both, couldn't spot the error, so how bad could it be? Love the colors too!

Nicely done! I had to look closely at the mariner's compass too but wouldn't have known either. (Like your 'disclaimer' :) ) Could you post where you found that pattern? I've seen a couple but they didn't look quite as nice. Thanks in advance.

Love your compass. The background fabric really makes it sparkle and look like a star in the night sky. Excellent job.

If you want to pursue doing MC blocks, I highly reccommend Judy Mathieson's book Mariners Compass Quilts Setting a New Direction. In this book she teaches you how to draft your own compasses so you can easily make them any size you want. All you need is a ruler, a compass, pad of paper and pencils. It is very simple to draft them once you have the basic instructions on what to do. She also teaches a great PP technique using freezer paper where you fold the freezer paper back and stitch right next to the paper so you can reuse pattern pieces and there is no tearing of paper.
