JANUARY BOM!!! Thanks melodylamour!!!

Melodylamour created a thread with a list of BOMs. This is the first one I tackled. Here is meodylamour's thread:
http://www.quiltingboard.com/links-r...r-t174363.html

Here is the link for Country Junction, the BOM this mini quilt is from:
http://countryjunktion.com/2012BOM.html

My sewing machine dislikes stitching through "fusible anything" so I did not stitch down the pieces. Skipped stitches everywhere. It looked terrible. The next applique I do I'll probably spray all the pieces with 505 Basting Spray since I know my machine will stitch through that.

Regardless, this project was a lot of fun to make. I stippled around the snowman and snowflakes and did a loopy FMQ in the boarder fabric with stars thrown in. Also, I added JANUARY at the bottom of the mini quilt. It wasn't included in the pattern. I searched alphabets on the internet and picked one, checked the size of the letters, printed it in reverse, traced the letters on the fusible, etc., then added them.

I'm looking forward to February!

ADORABLE! Great job!

I do a lot of applique' work, I think the whimsical wall hangings are so much fun. Anyway, I've also had occasional times when the stitching gives me trouble. I have taken my needle out and cleaned it with alcohol, and if that doesn't work, I just put a new needle in. One of those will usually take care of the problem.

Thanks! There is no template for January. I found a font I liked and used that. Not sure if I could find it again. I googled something like: alphabet applique free. When printing the alphabet, I reversed the printing so the letters were backwards. Oh, and eye it up so that the size of the letters will fit in the white snow. If they are too big, it would probably look ok if "January" went outside the lines. You make the rules for this one!

Good luck!

Thanks for the info - I've tried this and the needle will sew consistently for only about a foot, then starts to skip again. Neither the alcohol cleaning or changing the needle works for very long. It's probably my machine since this works for so many other people.

very cute, I am a snow people junky!
as for your machine not liking fusibles, are you sure you are using the RIGHT stuff? Not all fusibles are meant to be sewn threw. Heat-n-bond is one of them, you need the HNB lite or feather lite! and you need a sharp needle. perhaps you could use just a tiny strip of the fusible and leave the edges plain where you are going to sew!
I would do anything to avoid using a spray!

Thanks for the links.

This is very good advice. I'll look into what I'm using and make sure I have/get the right product. Thank you Jacquie!
