Just finished, learned several new things. No. 1, I am not fond of working on the bias.

Very pretty. I love the quilting. Really sets it off.

That's really neat! What's the problem with working on the bias? (never done it here ;)

Auntie M 01-24-2010 09:16 AM

bias stretches, at least for me, so I had to be v-e-r-y careful, but it came out and I'm happy

i really like tessellated designs. this is a very nice example. did you do the quilting pattern by hand or machine? that's also good looking.

by machine, used a string tied to a marking pen--the old fashioned protractor.

That is very nice! I have the pattern and a special ruler, just got to get around to it.

Very nice, I have had one of this pattern cut out for about 2 years I think... Got lost in the ufo pile! I feel inspired to go looking for it! lol

Interesting pattern. You did a great job.

sewingladydi 01-26-2010 04:37 PM

that's a very unique pattern-I've never seen it before. You did a nice job. I saw a tip today about working with bias. It said to stay stitch the bias edge before sewing to anything else-that's supposed to keep the bias from stretching

Is that the Japanese Pine Bark pattern? I just saw it for the first time at Road to California, and looked it up. It was done as background for a silhouette of a twisted pine tree. The effect was very oriental and dramatic!!

About the bias thing, if you starch your fabric well before cutting, it really helps prevent stretching. And you have to handle the fabric carefully, and no pulling!! ;)
