So I've been eyeing everyones OBW's and I really wanted to try it! So I found the book by Maxine Rosenthal and It was so helpful...plus reading some tips on here makes it easier!

It is soooo much fun to put together though!! I can see more of these in my future definitly. This one once I finish it I think I'll keep for myself :)

Very pretty!

Jamiestitcher62 01-01-2011 04:34 PM

OMG, how beautiful. I got that book too and just bought some fabric to try. My material is kind of muted, a black base with cream and gold paisley with a 24" repeat.

I hope it's easier than it looks. I think I'm slightly confused about the initial cuts on the repeat and after. Obviously putting the hexagons together looks easy, but the prep work to line everything up looks intimidating.

so pretty! :P

The hardest part for me was just getting all the fabric layers to line up. I realized I need to get some flat head pins tomorrow b/c my pins with the ball on top were making it harder for me! And the repeats are pretty easy...just find a spot that sticks out to you and use that as your guideline...cut that same spot each time and there ya go!

sandraa 01-01-2011 08:46 PM

I started one today, but I am winging it. I will get the book though, because yours is gorgeous.

I have that same fabric and have been planning on using it for a OBW. Great minds think alike! I'm glad to see it works out so well.

I am using the one block wonder book by maxine rosenthal which is super helpful with the pictures. I just used my plain 8 1/2 x 24 inch ruler...but you do need a 60 degree angle marked on there :)

CoventryUK 01-02-2011 02:05 AM

Very inspirational!! Must start looking for suitable fabric to have a go!!! Yours is looking great!!

kriscraft99 01-02-2011 06:10 AM

absolutely amazing! One day I'll be brave enough to give this a try

Julianna 01-02-2011 06:31 AM

We did One Block Wonder quits at a weekend retreat. So easy and we went around looking at each others quilts in fascination! Its amazing to see the different patterns. Thanks for including the photo of the original fabric. We were told to bring fabric we really would never have chosen: colorful, large print, very busy, something we would say "Eeeeuuuuuu" to and not buy. But thats where the fun starts. Would I do a OBW again? Already have :)

obxqwlter 01-02-2011 06:43 AM

Love it! I have a new fabric to OBW...I can't believe how addicting this pattern is!

QuiltingHiker 01-02-2011 04:02 PM

Those are some of the prettiest colors I have ever seen for an OBW. Can't wait to see the whole quilt.

They are just mesmerizing! I love looking at them when posted and love it when we can see the original fabric. They look way too scary for me to make.

hperttula123 01-02-2011 04:21 PM
