First -- thanks to everyone for your nice comments. I never feel that my work quite measures up so it feels good to see the compliments.

Wendiq -- I did use different whites. Although the photo doesn't show it, each block background was a 9-patch of various white-on-whites. When the blocks with the parasol ladies were finished, I needed something for border to bring it up to size. I wanted to bring some curved movement. I was going to do drunkard's path blocks and then applique the colored band along the curve, but I couldn't easily figure out the math and besides didn't want the waste. So I stacked the white-on-white in 5's, cut the curved line freehand purposefully not making them identical. I knew I wouldn't be successful if I tried so why not just do it on purpose. Shuffled the white-on-white pieces to mix them up. Then I cut 3/4" bias strips from the colors I used with the ladies and pieced them between the two drunkard's path pieces.

I am pleased with the appearance of the quilt and if this isn't what my DIL had in mind, I will be glad to bring it back home.

That really appeals to me....I love the way you did the drop and back....and I think I see that you used different whites? I think you have done a super job and should really feel proud. You might even want to enter this in a competition.....:)

There is great information here: http://www.quiltingboard.com/quiltin...e-t196192.html

Jenniky is doing a great job of showing various QAYG methods.

MNquiltlady 10-14-2012 06:02 PM

very nice, my mom made one very simular to that, turned out beautiful.

DeneK 10-14-2012 08:45 PM

I almost always make my quilts reversible. Partly because the backing fabric is not wide enough. I like it that you get 2 for 1.
