I let my son pick out the fabric(of course it has cars on it) and I just made one of these. No pattern, just winged it. I think it turned out cute. It only hold 16 crayons. Now I can measure the one I made to make sure it holds the right amount. This one might be going to daycare with him.

craftybear 10-09-2010 07:53 PM

very cute!

I gave it to him and he didn't like the crayons in it. He took em all out. I had to convince him to put them all back in.
I think I'm gonna make a tote next. One that can hold crayons and a coloring book.

Great way to get them in the habit of "putting away"...the book bag is a great idea. Thanks for sharing, it's really cute.

Yes, now if I could just get the three of them to always put things away when they are done....lol. I don't think that will ever happen. :)

that is a great idea, how did u make it?

hperttula123 10-09-2010 08:29 PM

Really, I cut cut off about a 6-7 inch strip off a chunk of fabric. Sewed around it leaving and opening to turn it and put a hair tie at one end. Took another section of fabric(didn't measure that one, just took it out of the scrap bin just because I like how the two looked together) and did the same thing to that one. turned them both back out and ironed flat. sewed along the whole bottom(that's where the openings were so that closed them up). Then just sewed lines about an inch away from each other all the way to the end of the roll(I eyeballed it).
I hope that helps....I'm horrible at giving instructions(as well as following them too....lol)

I like the idea, but I was wondering, maybe make the pockets bigger for their cars.

I make mine a little different, it is my best seller at craft shows:)

I love it. That is a great idea to make for the bazaar at our church this November... quick and very practical!

I think it's a cute idea -

but I'm wondering if your son has decided he now likes it? or not really?

He likes it...I'm going to make the tote one for home and send the crayon roll to day care.

That's cool. They are kinda fun to make. I looked at Etsy and did a search for them and seen a bunch of different kinds of them. I never realized how many ways you could make these.

Very cute. That is a great idea for taking crayons and coloring books on outings...no more rolling crayons to pick up.

wolph33 10-10-2010 08:16 AM

so cute and nice for learning to put away.

hperttula123 10-10-2010 07:50 PM

thanks...it was fun to make. I ended up making 7 of them....lol. Thats the over-do'er in me. Can't just make one. They will make cute presents for kids or if my kids go to a birthday party, it can be part of the gift. I'll use them.
