My DD brought these beautiful silky fabrics from Kathmandu, Nepal and I'm afraid to cut them. Also what do you all suggest I make out of them?
Wall hanging she brought made by Nepali women to help support a women's shelter. More pics. Silky pretties. |
How about beautiful decorative pillows and padded trinket boxes.
I can handle pillows but would'nt know where to start on trinket boxes. Do you have a source? Thank you for the great ideas!
Beautiful.

This is one of the quilt inmy "someday project" tag. I am a Japanese quilter and am going to do this with Jpanese fabric.
But how about making one with another asian fabric? http://www.france-i.com/marie/index.php?flg=UK&ref=0 |
oooooooooooo what gorgeous fabs :D
Wow-those fabrics are really special. I would have no idea what to make with them--I would just be caressing them daily!
what elegant fabric! I bet that feels awesome.
Those are such beautiful fabrics -- I'm not sure I could ever cut into them!! But I would pet them on a daily basis....
They're absolutely gorgeous!! You can send them to me.LOL Can't help you with what to do with them, other than just touching and looking.LOL
WOW sorry I cant find any other words ..........
How about a fabric box or bowl. I know I saw someone had done a bowl on here but its been a bit ago. |
I don't know how your mind works when you quilt ( didn't know how else to word that). When I have a fabric that I love, I won't cut it until I find that pattern that just jumps out at me. I might look through books and magazines for months until I find the perfect pattern.
Maybe if you try this, you'll know the perfect pattern when you see it. Lynette |
I have no clue, but I'm with the others....it needs petting daily.
Beautiful fabrics. Someone has just posted a picture from Maple Island designs, I checked out the site. The BQ one that was made would really show case your fabrics as well. You need to scroll down to the BQ pattern.

Wow!!! Gorgeous, would like to join the queue for stroking!
i would agree a kind of 'showcase' design, maybe 'attic windows? K x |
Those fabric's are gorgeous. I think I would just hang them up & admire them for quite awhile!! :D Do keep us posted, when you decide what you want to do with some of them.
Pretty fabric. Oh I want to touch them.
why cut them up at all? why not wear them as scarves ...long, wrap-around-the-neck ones, loose on-the-hips ones, tied around-the-hair ones, summertime wrap-around-the-bathing-suit-ones, through-the-belt-loop jeans ones, wear them like pareos, etc. i know you'll think of others.
you can even wrap yourself up like a present and make your guy very happy. |
Oooooh, what luscious fabrics. I would want them to be STARS in whatever quilt or... that you finally decide to do. Do they feel as good as they look? Maybe some kind of crazy quilt with "scraps" from what ever you do would be in order. I am soooo jealous!
Oh these are gorgeous, I am drooling, loe them.
What about a beautiful dressing gown. |
Or fans, against a black background, maybe accented with some embroidery or lace.
Thanks for all the great ideas! I have been looking and stroking them for all of you! It's scary to think about cutting them. Think I'll just L and S for awhile!!
I don't blame you for that! They are so elegant and beautiful! I really don't think I could cut them...I'd be waaayyy to terrified!
mmmmm.....silky fabrics.....must touch.....
Ahem! Sorry about that. I can see them on a lovely jewellery or trinking box....I think they call it cartonnage over her. I know you can by kits: http://www.cottonpatch.co.uk/acatalo...nage_Kits.html Maybe try one with normal fabric first in case you make mistakes. Or You could sew into simple, dainty coin purses or handbag? |
