My DD brought these beautiful silky fabrics from Kathmandu, Nepal and I'm afraid to cut them. Also what do you all suggest I make out of them?

Wall hanging she brought made by Nepali women to help support a women's shelter.

How about beautiful decorative pillows and padded trinket boxes.

Janstar 02-08-2009 09:51 PM

I can handle pillows but would'nt know where to start on trinket boxes. Do you have a source? Thank you for the great ideas!

This is one of the quilt inmy "someday project" tag. I am a Japanese quilter and am going to do this with Jpanese fabric.
But how about making one with another asian fabric?

WOW sorry I cant find any other words ..........
How about a fabric box or bowl. I know I saw someone had done a bowl on here but its been a bit ago.

I don't know how your mind works when you quilt ( didn't know how else to word that). When I have a fabric that I love, I won't cut it until I find that pattern that just jumps out at me. I might look through books and magazines for months until I find the perfect pattern.

Maybe if you try this, you'll know the perfect pattern when you see it.

Beautiful fabrics. Someone has just posted a picture from Maple Island designs, I checked out the site. The BQ one that was made would really show case your fabrics as well. You need to scroll down to the BQ pattern.

Those fabric's are gorgeous. I think I would just hang them up & admire them for quite awhile!! :D Do keep us posted, when you decide what you want to do with some of them.

littlehud 02-09-2009 02:49 PM

Pretty fabric. Oh I want to touch them.

butterflywing 02-09-2009 03:04 PM

why cut them up at all? why not wear them as scarves ...long, wrap-around-the-neck ones, loose on-the-hips ones, tied around-the-hair ones, summertime wrap-around-the-bathing-suit-ones, through-the-belt-loop jeans ones, wear them like pareos, etc. i know you'll think of others.

you can even wrap yourself up like a present and make your guy very happy.

Shemjo 02-09-2009 03:06 PM

Oooooh, what luscious fabrics. I would want them to be STARS in whatever quilt or... that you finally decide to do. Do they feel as good as they look? Maybe some kind of crazy quilt with "scraps" from what ever you do would be in order. I am soooo jealous!

Butterflyspain 02-09-2009 03:33 PM

Oh these are gorgeous, I am drooling, loe them.

What about a beautiful dressing gown.

Moonpi 02-09-2009 04:26 PM

Or fans, against a black background, maybe accented with some embroidery or lace.

Janstar 02-09-2009 04:49 PM

Thanks for all the great ideas! I have been looking and stroking them for all of you! It's scary to think about cutting them. Think I'll just L and S for awhile!!

sandpat 02-09-2009 04:56 PM

I don't blame you for that! They are so elegant and beautiful! I really don't think I could cut them...I'd be waaayyy to terrified!

PrettyKitty 02-10-2009 07:22 AM

mmmmm.....silky fabrics.....must touch.....

Ahem! Sorry about that. I can see them on a lovely jewellery or trinking box....I think they call it cartonnage over her. I know you can by kits:

Maybe try one with normal fabric first in case you make mistakes.

Or You could sew into simple, dainty coin purses or handbag?
