My daughter has claimed this quilt. She said it's not one she'd put on a couch for everyone to use, and she still wants another ragged flannel, and she has enough quilts, but yes she likes it a lot. That's all I need to know. I'll keep it safe until she's ready for it.

So far... five more blocks to go. This is not the final lay-out--I need to turn and move some yet. I'm waiting to hear from my girl if she'd like the last five blocks to expand the green or continue with the blue. I thought that woods fabric made a neat border for at least two sides--for that's exactly what I see when kayaking on two of the lakes we frequent, but maybe a narrow green, then wider bluish border would be better. Again, Rachel can decide. (Just got an email from her--she wants the greens expanded and has no opinion/idea on the borders. She says it looks real! :D )

That is stunning, I love it!!
Love those colors

susiequilt 09-13-2009 07:02 AM

That's coming along lovely. I'd like to see the greens expanded even if she doesn't! :D

That is amazing looking! I love it and I love the fabrics and color placement!!!! You have done a beautiful job on this and the points look perfect.

Mamagus 09-13-2009 07:13 AM

I love how you "play" with color and it comes out gorgeous! I am not brave enough for that. Maybe my stash is not big enough! YEAH! That's the problem!

sewjoyce 09-13-2009 07:15 AM

That is just gorgeous!!! :D

lyndawn 09-13-2009 07:15 AM

It is turning out beautifully!

It seems like the kind of quilt you would cuddle up with on a cold evening in a cabin by the water. It really does fit the name:)

That came out beautiful! The border fabric is perfect!

k3n 09-13-2009 07:35 AM

Karla this is looking beautiful. Can I put forward an idea - how about doing adjacent green borders and putting all the green that side, graduating diagonally into the blues with the opposite borders in blue? Just an idea - whatever you come up with will be stunning, as always! :D

Yvonne 09-13-2009 08:01 AM

That's looking mighty wonderful! Anxious to see the finished project. (aren't we always?)

Jim's Gem 09-13-2009 08:05 AM

That is incredible Karla! It will be a very beautiful quilt. I like the trees fabric. If I remember from you photo's that is how the banks of the lake look. I'd claim that quilt too, if I could! :) :)

Jim's Gem--that what I was thinking! Below is a photo taken while kayaking...
k3n--I love your idea. I sort of did that with the border on the barn quilt... blues above working to greens below...it wouldn't be difficult--I can picture it perfectly! I'll ask Rachel. :D

Esqmommy 09-13-2009 08:20 AM

What a fantastic quilt karla. It really does look like a lake in all its glory. Can't wait to see it "done", although this is a great window to peek into.

joeyoz 09-13-2009 08:21 AM

That is so beautiful. Would you adopt me please so I can have one too?? LOL

k3n 09-13-2009 08:53 AM

Karla the tree photo is the border fabric to a T! I love the way you translate your surroundings into quilts.

RedGarnet222 09-13-2009 08:59 AM

Oh wow those colors and fabrics are just to die for! I love it.

Debbie1 09-13-2009 08:59 AM

It's turning out amazing! The border will really draw out the green. I love it - great job!

tlrnhi 09-13-2009 08:53 PM

Karla, it's beautiful!!

SharonC 09-13-2009 09:27 PM

It is so very, very pretty and the picture of the trees seems to be an exact duplicate of your material for the border (or the other way round :)).
I am anxious to see what you decide and the end product. Your work is exquisite.

allisonirons 09-13-2009 09:32 PM

oh wow! I really dig this one!

gaigai 09-14-2009 03:21 AM

OK, barnbum, once again I am wiping drool off my chin. It's just not right that someone should be so talented AND nice!

Pea Soup 09-14-2009 03:45 AM

Oooh, so far I like what you've posted. I can't wait to see more.

You're right! I'm going to stop being nice! I think this forum is full of talented nice people. :D

Thanks for the kind comments everyone! I had to cut more light pieces to make green squares, as my girl requested. I had plenty of blue, of course. The strips are cut, but I need to get them into triangles. Everything takes time these days... school...horses...school...horses...quilting must fit in more!!

Lisanne 09-14-2009 09:03 AM

Ooh, that's wonderful, just like the colors on the surface or the water!

Love the pic of the new horses in your avatar, too.
