Kim Diehl's Mocha Stars - How Should I Quilt This?

1 Attachment(s)
I took the class in May of 2014, got very little done in the class, then it sat in the bag all this time. Started working on it after New Year's sometime and the top is finally finished!

It's only 60" square, so I think I'll put a little narrow cream border around it, then use all the leftover HSTs to make a 4" border on all sides - that'll give me a 70" square - probably 68" after quilting.

Then all I have to do is figure out the quilting for it - I have no clue, so suggestions are welcome!

I have no suggestions but just wanted to say Wow, what a beauty!

Very pretty! I think I would outline quilt the stars and vines. I would put a background fill in the white, perhaps a stipple. I would put a pointy swirl in each diamond that make up the stars.

when i first looked at it i saw exploding stars. lines from the center of each star going outward or from the very center of the applique block going outward. but that depends on how difficult it would be to go over the applique or if you even want to.

Thank you all - I was so sick of this thing that I had to put it away a couple of times for a few days, and it's a relief to have it done!

I did as much of the applique on the brown borders as I could do before I sewed it to the center, and that cut back on the cussin'.

I think I will outline all the applique for sure, and I like the ideas for some kind of star rays and a small filler stitch in the cream and natural areas.

The rays won't cross over any applique, so that would be a lot of starts and stops, but it could be interesting, especially where rays are crossing over each other. Maybe that would end up being the filler in the middle?

I'll keep cooking on it. :)

Gorgeous, I like the idea of a cream border. That would really set of the center. I don't have any quilting ideas. What ever you do will make it great.

Wowzee, that is absolutely stunning. My favorite colors too.
