I remember Kliban cats! And I agree the panel is probably decades old. I used to have some Kliban cat fabric in my stash, it sounds like it may have been a light version of the print you describe in the background of the panel, probably all from the same line of fabric. It was a great cat print and I wish I had more. Your lap quilt came out great and I love the addition of the little red fleece heart appliques.

Funny note - I still have my Kliban beach towel and it has been adopted by the dog. He pulls it around like a kid with their blanky and pushes it into a pile in a sunshine spot to sleep on. Maybe he was a kitty in a previous life!
