I remember that art film well and watched it a bunch of times, loving the fact that it was visual, no dialog, just music. "Koyaanisqatsi" means"life out of balance". LOL great interpretation in your quilt, nice job.

Very interesting quilt and such an informative topic -- I learned something new! :)

Very unique, and I learned something new today.

Your quilt is great - and thanks for the tip on the art film too- I can use all the help I can get in keeping up with the most wonderful human creations!
Very original.
That's cool! I learned something new too
nicely done
Very interesting although I would say your quilt is very balanced. I will look up the movie.
I like your quilt very much. Thank you for sharing this. peace |

Can't pronounce the name but I love the quilt! :D
I bet you had fun putting that together...it will always be a reminder to you of a film you must have really enjoyed.
Great quilt. Loved the documentary, too. The quilt sort of reminds me of the movie.
Boy do I remember that movie too! I had SUCH a hard time staying awake to the end. The music was just soporific beyond my control.
LOVE this quilt and your choice of the name. LOVE these fabrics as well! |
Very interesting design. I don't remember this director.
Awesome modern improv quilt! Grey & violet red are 2 of my favorite colors to pair up!
Reminds me of some of the "new-to-me" Australian quilts. I had gotten tired of " Same Old Things"...so this is refreshing!!
wow that is very nice different!!
What a uniquely beautiful quilt. Love it.
wow, I am a huge Philip Glass fan and your choice of fabric really catches up the essence of the movie and music....congrats.
Very pretty!

Thanks everyone. I enjoyed playing with this one. It started out as an improv quilt using only 4 or 5 of the fabrics that eventually made their way into the quilt. I made the top, then cut it up into uneven sized strips that I used to make QAYG blocks to which I added other fabrics. I let it sit for a few years before I could decide how I wanted to set the blocks.
Whoever said they had a hard time staying awake for the film, I remember having that problem too LOL. Much as I love the idea of the film and Philip Glass' music, I found the constant cutting from one shot to another and the repetitive nature of the music to be almost hypnotic--but it did get across the idea of "life out of balance". The film was made starting in the mid-70s and finally was released in 1982. That was before cell phones, the internet, 24 hour news etc.---Can you imagine what a film about life out of balance might look like now???? Back to working on quilts for the high school and college age grand daughters.... they will be done for Christmas:sew::sew::sew::sew::sew::sew::sew: Rob |
