La Passacaglia

5 Attachment(s)
Working on La Passacaglia and I am hoping it will turn out gorgeous. I bought the main fabric that is light print and the rest is scraps. I don't have a lot of selection of scraps and I am picking out things that I think will be okay. I am not EPP. I tried EPP and I just couldn't manipulate those little pieces around a piece of cardboard.

Looking good. Sure looks like a whole lot of work. Probably need more patience than I have right now

Are you machine piercing? I have some great templates and going to use those.

All of your hard work is turning out nicely. You will have something to be proud of. :)

Kassaundra 05-25-2016 12:03 PM

It is beautiful, haven't seen an ugly La Pass yet!!!! Cardboard?????? Oh my no wonder you had problems. I am EPP the La Pass and I use good ol' typing paper, the heaviest I have heard anyone use is cardstock.

LoriEl 05-25-2016 12:09 PM

WOW! That looks like a lot of work! It will be beautiful!

QUILTNMO 05-25-2016 12:21 PM

Amazing! Looking great.

KalamaQuilts 05-25-2016 01:30 PM

It is beautiful Sissy. I agree with Kassundra, they all are beautiful. I made mine all from stash too. I wasn't particularly impressed with the results until I started pressing the rosettes as I went along, then they started singing.

Beautiful so far. Working on one, slowly, but in no rush, just do a little every night.

Monale 05-25-2016 11:50 PM

Beautiful! I'm also working on one, and like you, I'm not doing EPP. It's just too much additional work IMO :o

DOTTYMO 05-26-2016 12:24 AM

Very inspiring photoes great work.

sinceresissy 05-26-2016 01:36 AM

It is the little black triangles that were so hard to wrap around a piece of paper. My fingers just couldn't do it neatly. I did try heavy paper but it seemed like it was too flimsy. I haven't pressed anything yet. I don't want to stretch the material. I will press when I am done with it all and it will flatten out. It is hand pieced. I may be showing my ignorance here but I thought EPP was hand pieced. We'll see how it turns out. It is like working a puzzle.

Looks like a lot of work but it is turning out so pretty.

petpainter 05-26-2016 03:36 AM

VERY nice job! I, also am working on this quilt...I love seeing all the different fabrics and looks they have- and all lovely.
I am using the paper and having no trouble with it. I am only on my 3rd rosette, but will post progress soon.
Keep up the good work- it has really taught me that I enjoy hand sewing... it's not the curse we all equate it to!

mjhaess 05-26-2016 04:57 AM

Gorgeous and a lot of work....

KalamaQuilts 05-26-2016 05:02 AM

yes, english paper piecing is mostly done as hand projects but I've seen a number of quilters attach them together by machine with a tiny zigzag

Kassaundra 05-26-2016 05:14 AM

There was one woman on the La Pass FB page that was talking about doing that, epp w/ machine zig zag and clear thread. I haven't seen any updates lately so don't know how it worked out for her.

Jingle 05-26-2016 07:16 AM

Will be a beautiful quilt when finished. Looks great so far.

Geri B 05-26-2016 08:50 AM

On my epp, I use glue stick by sewline to "baste". Easier and faster- for me. I have also found that by sewing the pieces together side by side rather than face to face..no thread shows at all...and finally found silk thread to be my salvation....all others I've tried have shredded along the way as I was working......and no my start length is about 20"... Not much longer...like in anything else, we find our best way and run with it. Still waiting for a sale price on her book, ha!ha!

oh munner 05-26-2016 12:23 PM

That's beautiful, do you use a pattern? I'm not sure I'd be able to do anything like that without some sort of directions.

Material Witness 05-26-2016 12:42 PM

Great job! I would have had to have started this when I was 15 if it were to be finished in my lifetime. Not happening! Yours is beautiful.

meanmom 05-26-2016 02:17 PM

Your is beautiful. I would love to make one but I hate to hand sew.

sinceresissy 05-27-2016 04:53 AM

I would love to see other La pass. I can't imagine sewing these little pieces on the machine. I did have a problem last night hooking up a rosette to the No. 3 bottom big rosette. I think I will start a thread on Main.

kwiltkrazy 10-16-2016 10:55 AM

beautiful. Such patience, I could never do this.
