Like Eddie, I have a number of vintage quilt tops which I got at auction or from private sellers. I love these old quilt tops and enjoy giving them new life as a quilt. ......
I probably should ask Eddie for his advice on labeling a hybrid quilt, that is, someone else's vintage quilt top (unknown) which I complete, sometimes incorporating some fixes, appliques, batting, backing, binding and quilting. Any suggestions how to label these quilts? Would appreciate all suggestions with thanks! 4-square blocks in mid-50s (?) prints Tesselated blocks quilted with allover gingko leaf design |
I have quilted tops I found at sales etc. When I do the label I write "Pieced by unknown quilter, quilted by me" the date, etc. You can add details if you like but if the person is unknown it doesn't matter, does it??
By the way, love your quilts :D:D:D |
The year you acquired it and how it came to happen:
Info you know about the quilt: Sandwiched/quilted/binded by: |
I like those ideas, but would add where the top was aquired.

awesome quilts, thanks for sharing, also ask Eddie how he does his labels

It's wonderful that you want to document them. Put as much as you can. They will be loved no matter what their heritage. Think of them as a mixed breed puppy. They are still cute and loveable.

You have some great tops that are now going to be loved and cherished.
thank you for asking this question as I have some I want to do also. |
On the most recent one I did, I labeled it as follows:
Quilt top pieced circa 1930s by Mary Susan (Weathers) Senter. Quilted in 2010 by Eddie Landreth. |
Fantastic quilts! I'm glad that you get to rescue them & make them new again.
