I had joined a Craftster swap to get me motivated to make myself a landscape quilt and I'm glad I did... I really enjoyed making them!

I used pretty much the same fabrics for both of them - more or less.
I'm planning on making a third one, Halloween themed. I have it all planned out in my head but sadly I won't have the time to work on it for a few weeks. Hopefully I'll get it done in time to use it this year :)

I did not use a pattern or a book to make them. I kind of winged it. I will post a tutorial one of these days however fall/winter is my busy season so that tutorial will not happen until at least the new year - unless I actually do get the time to make my Halloween quilt as I'm thinking of putting that on my website - it would fit in with my Not Always Cute and Cuddly motto :D

Anyhooo... my pics. I will be doing the binding later on this week. I just need to get cracking on the crochet designs that have a deadline.

what a super job in the quilting... the wind is blowing and the owls are hanging on for dear life (that owl fabric is perfect!). I love it when the quilting tells the story - it's a skill I surely need to hone.

Every area in the quilt is quilted differently - right down to the shrubs. It was fun deciding on what way to do it... each area I'd look at and go hmm... circles. This needs circles...

I used blue thread in the clouds on one of them and I am not too happy with it. I'm considering just appliqueing over the top of it again and redoing it. There is just too much stitching to remove. The second one I did, I did a lot of ripping. I'd try out a thread color and if I didn't like it, I redid it right away.

I like them both though for different reasons... The first picture is kind of Mary Englebreit to me. That black mountain in the background has cherries all over it lol. It has a cuter, whimsical appearance to it to me...

So happy to see your landscape quilt and hear your description of winging it.....it makes me feel like I'm not alone when I design a pattern "in my heads" and work it out. I have a plan to do a quilt I call, Portland Rain, for my GD. Nothing unusual in the panel scene (a Kincade sky) appliqued falling leaves and "raindrops" for the quilting. Thats the part I keep practicing; getting a real feel of rain. But thats the part I love-and hate, because its hard to create a special effect.
Thank you for sharing and encouraging

lol the fabric for the trees made me smile. I love the choice and its also kinda fun to see some of the birds upside-down. The quilting looks great!
