This is a quilt I will be giving away to someone that is ill. I am going to place a flannel backing so they can cuddle up in it. Have one cut out for a man. Thinking of placing Prairie Points for the border.

Beth this is so pretty. I love the hummingbird theme. Are the hummingbirds embroidered on? This should cheer the person who is ill up. It is so pretty! I think the prairie points would be beautiful as a border.

I just love hummingbirds. I have 3 feeders outside my diningroom window in the summer and love to watch them. I make my own nectar and fill the feeders with it. They just love it and come back every year. A pair nested from a piece of wire hanging from the ceiling in my unfinished garage last year and came back again this year to the same nest. I had to take it down this year because the ceiling was being done. They really do use spider webs to keep their nests together. I could fit my thumb inside the nest. The babies were so cute. One day I was outside finishing up an oil painting and I heard this humming by my ear and low and behold it was one of the little birds, attracted by my perfume. Thought you might like the story.

Your quilt top is beautiful. :D Did you
machine embroider the humming bird
blocks? I just made a doll quilt, with
machine embroidered blocks. It was
so fun to make. :D Great Job.
Sulabug,
:D :D :D

sewjoyce 06-24-2009 03:18 PM

I love that! Your embroidery is sew nice!!!! (My blocks never seem to lay flat....)

SewSew2 06-24-2009 03:26 PM

I agree with you on embroidery being fun. When I started make quilt tops it was not long and I wanted to get into the embroidery so bought a machine that you can sew and embroidery. I love placing embroidery into my quilts. My next project to learn is applique. I have problems also with them wanting to pucker which makes me so made. However I have learned once the quilt is quilted it really looks good. Now sure what the quilter does but she performs a miracle on several of mine.

Wow what a beautiful quilt. I just love that you used the hummers for the design on the blocks. Who wouldn't smile seeing those. You are such a sweet person to make this for someone that needs to be cheered up an get better. Great Job! You go girlfriend~!!

I love hummingbirds, too. In Tucson, the Arizona Sonora Desert Museum has a walk-in hummingbird aviary. Once, when my hair was longer, I was in the aviary watching the birds, when I heard buzzing, and several people said, ''Stand still,' so I did. Then I felt tugging on my hair. I was standing in a ray of sunlight, and one of the hummers wanted a strand of my hair for its nest!

beachlady 06-25-2009 01:35 PM

Love your quilt. The colors you have used are gorgeous!

Joanne, did you comply and let the bird have your hair?

JoanneS 06-25-2009 01:46 PM

Absolutely - it's quite an honor!

Ducky 06-25-2009 01:46 PM

Lovely, lovely piece! Your embroidery machine seems to do a great job. I keep thinking I will do the same concept, except with blue toille embroidery. Great work!

Linsoblu 06-29-2009 09:12 AM

cough, cough, you did a beautiful job. I love the hummingbirds one of my favorite birds. This will cheer up the person who gets it glad to know there are still kind and loving people in this crazy world. Bless you
