That's a good looking quilt. What size did you make your quilt? I'm currently in the process of making quilts for my parents. They're not in a nursing home yet but are at an age where they could be soon.

The quilt is 42 x 54. Vicki told me that they needed to be about the size of a baby quilt. Since that varies, I sort of guessed, and went a little wider. I wanted it wide enough to tuck in the sides pretty good.

Really pretty quilt. Are the hearts appliqued?

Love your quilt ,sorry to hear about your niece I know your quilt will mean a lot to her.

My quilting club makes lap quilts for the veterans hospital in our area. The size we use is 45 X 54 seems to work out good for them. Your quilt is very pretty she will surely love it.

Yes, they are applique, machined stitch with the blanket stitch. I adderd them after the plain block got a scorch mark!! That is why they aren"t centered.LOL

I like the quilt very much and your choice of colors. Good job.

pab58 01-10-2011 04:16 PM

Love your colours and the fact the hearts are not centred adds to the charm of the quilt. I also love the other quilt on the bed, did you make this too?

Sorry to hear about your niece. She is in my thoughts and prayer.

Beautiful quilt, though. She will really enjoy it.

It's beautiful, I'm sure she will love it. What a great way to take a lemon and turn it into lemonade (the hearts). Love it.

Lovely quilt! God bless your niece. I'll keep her in my prayers.

Patti Sue 01-11-2011 06:36 AM

That is a great idea! I did that on my ironing board have one of those Big Boards (which are great) got a scorched spot so covered it with a red heart! Works!!

Very pretty!

I also wanted to mentioned, that if you are making a lap quilt and the person is in a Wheelchair you don't want to go any bigger as they have a tendency to get caught in the wheels but yet you want them to be big enough to cover their legs and kinda tuck in! I am a retired RN that used to work with Handicap people in wheel chairs.

I am sorry to hear about your niece. She will love the quilt. I agree with Patti Sue. If you Google 'Quilt Sizes', you will find that the approx. size for a wheelchair lap quilt is 37 x 48.

clem55 01-11-2011 09:34 AM

thanks for that info. I will probably be making her another and can use that size for the next one.

QUILTNMO 01-11-2011 10:34 AM

Just some cottons I bought at Hancocks about 17 years ago. No idea of brand. But thank you for the compliment!
