Large Apple Core Flannel Quilt

Found this pattern in a Fons & Porter magazine. The apple core sections are approximately 18" in length. It went together like a dream. A real fun quilt.

Went together like a dream, huh. Looks adorable but not so easy. Very very nice.

Looks great! Was the edge (binding) hard to do with all the curves?

QuiltnNan 03-10-2013 01:16 PM

Okay, Your quilt is really cool. I have an issue with the ease you proclaim. I am so happy it was. Maybe the block size has something to do with it.

I attempted this block several years ago and I think, in the 5 or 6" blocks I made, it is by far the most challenging block I have ever tried to put together.

I think Hand piecing this one would be wonderful but on the machine I had way to many matches to line up and sewing every other curve in a row and going back to sew the opposite curves was extremely challenging and took alot of effort for me. All the sarting and stoping, snipping and turning wasn't my cup of tea.

The big block version is reall cool! Very nicely done!

Very nice. I love the colors and did it come with a pattern.?

hperttula123 03-10-2013 05:54 PM

how pretty!!! I haven't tried one because I'm intimidated by doing the binding. It's gorgeous though :)

Love your version of this quilt. I have the top made in black/white/green.... need to get it out & quilt it! Will be watching for your binding tips :)

I've been doing a few google searches on this pattern.... I don't like meander quilting.... so I may have found an alternative... will keep checking back for tips!

To tell you the truth, I've never been a fan of apple core, but I really LOVE yours. I love the size and the happy look of it. Easy, huh? Now you have me thinking.........that's always dangerous.
