large quilt
 

I knew this quilt was going to be large, but did not really realize how large 105 inches is. How am I ever going to quilt the thing? I don't have that much room. The top is almost done and I'm already having a hard time trying to move it around. Guess I'll have to go slow. This is the big star from Missouri Quilts Youtube demo. Very easy to make.

That came out lovely. Consider quilting it in thirds.
Lay out back, batting, top. Carefully roll back top on one end and cut out 1/3 of the batting. Repeat with the other end. Roll back top and spray base or pin all three layers. Quilt that middle section to about 1 inch from the end of the batting. Add back one second of batting on the end and spray baste or pin that section of batting and quilt that end. Repeat with other end. Easy and so much less bulk you have to work with at one time.

that looks very nice. I can tell you that I have quilted a large number of that size on a home machine. It is definitely work. Begin in the middle and quilt one small section, then move to another. By beginning at the middle, you do not have to push the parts that are already quilted around under the machine arm. I was about to recommend Thermore, because it is thin and very easy to work with, but maybe not a good idea in Florida. Depending on your budget and how you want it, you could also price LAers. Even though I quilt very well, three times it has been more appropriate to pay someone.

I just quilted my king yesterday...I only did straight lines and it was so easy. no strain on the back or arms. I do have the Janome 7700 so does have alot of space. I was going to meander but decided to just do the straight stitch. The only thing I would do different is I would use larger stitch lenght just because I think it would really look nice.

Wow! That is a nice quilt. I'm afraid I would have to send one that big to a LA quilter. My little Brother might could do it, but I'm not sure I could.

yep, go slow. scrunch your quilt under the throat until the center is under the needle. start quilting there and finish up with the right side under the throat. then turn the quilt and scrunch it under and quilt that half. I try to quilt in sections these days but tend to forget and put the whole quilt together only to be dismayed on how large it is. duh!

susiequilts idea sounds good. I may just try it on my next big quilt. It is a beautiful quilt and I know it will be even more beautiful when it is quilted. Great job!

I was just looking at that video yesterday, contemplating making one for me. Love the way yours turned out! I want one that is 120" x 120" - so I will be sending mine out to an LA, I think. Need to start researching costs, etc...

This is going to be beautiful. As others suggested, I would quilt it in sections if using a DSM. I learned from Marti Michell's book, Machine Quilting in Sections. I recommend that book all the time - excellent for picking the right technique for (almost) any quilt.

I just made the smaller version for my aunt - I am lucky that I have a long arm - I think with a lot of manuevering and a little luck you can do it. I think having a table or some support to keep the quilt stable will help. Good luck and you will have one beautiful quilt.

Yeah, I was thinking of doing it in thirds, but I really have to think about it. I wanted to quilt it in diamonds. I'll sleep on it for a couple of days. lol I don't know of any long arm quilters or how much it would cost so I will most likely do it myself. Thanks for all the suggestion. Syl

Your quilt is very pretty. Love how your churn dash blocks in the corner are all different. I also made this quilt and did not realize how BIG it was going to be. Went through my stash and picked out all fall themed fabrics and made each block different. Each block goes together so fast, it makes such a nice quilt. Can't wait to see yours quilted.

Two words for you: LONG. ARM.
If it was me, and I have a few not quite this big, it'll sit in the closet all ready to be quilted. I just need to save up the money and send them out rather than thinking I'll EVER get around to quilting them.
