Bonnie Blue was having that irresistable sale...and what fabulous fabrics are there. Most of these were $6'yard and 15% off of that.

Some for the blocks--I was hoping to use the red for the corner border squares, but it's not dark enough.

The near black is going to be the thinner first border and maybe the outer border corners, and the strips the wider outer border, and the plaid the back. The plaid looks exactly like it did in the website photos, but I so wish I bought the one with the green strip now. It's the third row down here: http://www.bonniebluequilts.com/Sear...?CategoryID=72 This one looks pink! I worked so hard at choosing no pinks or flowers, then end with a pink strip. Hubby likes it fine... he wasn't here when I ordered. I should have had him choose--I bet he would have picked the green. Darn. I guess I could scrap up the back and add leftovers of other fabrics to mix it up.

What do you think? Manly enough?

Yjay should be a beauty Karla. How was school without kids today?

barnbum 09-02-2008 03:30 PM

Sigh--the kids don't come until Thursday... I've met a lot of them, and will meet more tomorrow afternoon. I'm eager to get started! :D

Today we had a presenter from 8-3>10 with an hour off for lunch. Tomorrow is more morning meetings, the time to finish our rooms.

Great fabrics! Can't wait to see the quilt you create with them.

You really start school late there--here we started Aug 7th!! It is almost too hot for the kids to play outside at recess.

Oh I think it's manly enough and i just love the fabrics. Have a great school year.

soooooooo pretty

Dear barnbum, I just love the one with the "pinkish" stripe. I looks more peachy next to the maroons and other colors. I really think it will add interest to the piece. And yes, it is manish. They like color, too. Great choices.

You MUST be a teacher. I know what you mean about those meetings before the session begins. I am a retired teacher (mostly first grade). Had 33 years under my hat when I retired. I miss some parts of it -- mostly the children and the co-workers. Now I have time (ha-ha) to quilt. That is, when I'm not "helping out" somewhere. Have a GREAT YEAR ! What do you teach?

barnbum 09-08-2008 05:36 PM

Thanks! Gail--I teach 5th graders--and LOVE it. My class this year is so sweet--we're having a great time together. It's a tricky schedule with teaching straight from 10-1 on 3/5 days--but they are doing well. I'm moving them around a lot--from partner work to small groups and from desks to the Cozy Corner to keep them from getting sleepy/bored. It's going to be a fabulous year. :D :D :D

Thanks for the thumbs up on the pinkish stripe. I showed hubby both the choices and he said he doesn't know which he would have picked! Whew!

GailG 09-08-2008 06:44 PM

Please pardon my ignorance; why are you doing the 3/5 days? By 10 - 1 you mean that the students are in class only from 10 to 1?

My last year of teaching was a heart-breaker. I had the sweetest little class of first graders. I had to stop at Christmastime because of illness. They kept in touch with me by writing letters, etc. They're seniors this year. How time flies!!

Yes, those are nice masculine colors. Looking forward to the finished quilt.

Gail--sorry for the confusion... school is 5 days a week from 8:35-3:15, I was referring to the schedule with speicals and lunch/recess. For two days we have our special at 10:05-10:50, and lunch/recess is at 1:05-2:05. But on 3 out of 5 days, the special is at 9:15-10:00, so that means we have 10-1 straight in the room--which can be hard on 10 year olds at first. After a week they'll be fine.
