So! For Mother's Day, I dug out this old quilt top my great grandmother (possibly my great aunt, we're not sure anymore) made but never finished. I'd intended to have it ready to present in time for the holiday, but it never happened.

Well I finally got everything finished last night, and have taken a break in our bad weather to pop outside to nab a few pictures.

I didn't realize that hand-binding like this took so long. Of course, I hadn't hand-sewn anything bigger than a repair job before, either, so...

It's better than my first quilt, and Mom likes it, so that's what's important!

love the old quilts. such talent those ladies had without all our modern conveniences. our guild had a old quilt show and tell. mom gave me my baby quilt that she embroidered and my great grandmother quilted. it was so cute. gave it back to her after the meeting and now she insists she gave it to me. i think she just wants to keep it - haha!

Thanks guys! I was happy to find this one in good enough shape to just get supplies and finish it, since some of the other ones we have are too damaged to fix (that I know of, I could be wrong).

She loves the finished product, and it's a very good blanket to hide out under during inclement weather, too!

It's beautiful. And just think of the tools they had to work with. No rotary cutters and rulers. They used scissors and paper and wooden rulers and theirs still turned out beautiful. Then we have the nerve to complain when ours don't turn out perfectly.
