I love your butterfly quilt. I'm working on one with butterflies for my great neice was suppose to be for her 2nd birthday end of August but may be late in getting there.

Rebecca Chambley 07-17-2007 02:26 AM

Very Pretty, Love the colors.

vicki reno 07-17-2007 02:31 AM

BettyT, a version of this was in the 2001 issue of American Patchwork and Quilting magazine. The only difference is that I left off the checkered border separating the butterflies from the tulips. That was bt accident because I hadn't measured the white for the tulips to account for the checkered border and had no more white left. This was done in repro prints--all from scraps in the closet.

And yes, I'll be there for Labor Day.

Vicki
What size is this quilt? I seen a pattern similar to this in a very old quilt mag, I have a dear friend that I met on this forum, She lives In Ala, and we have since gotton together. She collects old quilt mags. And she sent me a similar pattern, Just the butterflys, not the whole quilt, I loved it when I seen it, and I love yours. Is the center piece stippled first then add the applique of butterflys? How big is your center piece? Really a nice job, and the colors are great, Very cottage looking to me. How long did it take ya? Thanks for sharing.

vicki reno 07-17-2007 03:17 AM

Rebecca, you're right. A very old copy of Quilt Magazine had a whole cloth quilt with butterflies on it. In fact, the butterfly patern was the one in that mag. I had forgotten that! This is the 3rd one using that template! So I got a good run out of that mag. :D

It mesures about 45 inches square. I attached the butteflies and then quilted and quilted the bordrs separately too. The center is 38 inches. I guess you call this stippling. I call it apin on a regular machine. I am a novice and had all kinds of misery with it. I don't know how much was me andhow much was he machine. I probably won't do this technique again until I can get the frame from John Flynn. Also if you look closely--one of the daisies is turned the wrong way. Ididn't notice it until I was done and then it was too late. So they will just have to live with it.

Good morning Vicki,
You quilt is so pretty. You can't help but want to cuddle up with it.

Norah 07-17-2007 05:23 AM

I love the nametag, too. That will make it a treasure forever.

annmarie 07-17-2007 05:42 AM

Lovely, lovely, lovely! And your stippling looks just fine. Almost too pretty to use. Maybe you should keep it & hang it on the wall!

vicki reno 07-17-2007 05:44 AM

Annmarie. This is one of only a few of my projects that I ahve regretted giving away. Maybe there will be one for me someday. :-) The quilting did look a lot better once I washed it. In spite of all the trouble that quilt gave me, I do like it. thanks for all the kind words.

Rebecca Chambley 07-17-2007 06:27 AM

Vicki
Thanks so much for the info, I did'nt notice the flower at all. And as far as I know you did it that way so, it's your special mark, and thats how you know you made it, And that is what makes it special. So no one can take it and say that it's theirs, because you know whats special about it. Good idea. There are no mistakes, Just happy and unique marks. Defintely do not fret, it's way to pretty to fret, They will love it.

sewmuch 07-17-2007 06:34 AM

Vicki, love those butterflies, great job you did. Lucky person to get it. :)

Virginia H. Cunningham 07-17-2007 03:29 PM

Vicki,
It's beautiful!! You know how I love butterflies and I 'm here to tell you you did a great job. Love the quilting angel. Tell me about it--it's not your usual way to sign a quilt.
Virginia

vicki reno 07-18-2007 02:22 AM

The angel is a sketch that was in some of the early Quilt magazines. I copied and enlarged the picture and put it on a light box to trace around it on the fabric. I fell in love with her--think she is too cute and this quilt is going to a little girl so I felt it was appropriate.

quiltgrl 07-30-2007 07:13 AM
