My wife is very active in a number of women's organizations and is an officer in many of them. She asked me to make her a portable lectern and a means of carrying it so that she could take it with her to the various venues that these meetings happen. What I came up with was a collapsable pine lectern, pine is very light weight, and made a bag to fit. The two support pieces on either side are hinged to the front, and swing out, and the top is put in place and locks onto the base supports by fitting them into channels on the underside of the top. The bag is padded and compartmented with diamond quilted cotton canvas. Problem solved.

What a great idea! I agree with Sandra. I bet you could sell them. How heavy is the whole package when the lectern is put in the bag?

It is called a lectern. It is used to hold the copy of the text that you are using when speaking before a group. The portability gives you the option of taking it with you to any venue, and having the copy you are reading close enough to see clearly and not have to bob your head down to the table top while glancing at the copy. I hope that is a clear enough explanation.

Probably between 5-10 lbs tops. The pine is a very light wood, and so the whole pkg is easily handled. that was one of the requirements. You just have to be a bit circumspect in your handling of it, No tossing the whole thing in the back of a pick-up truck.
