Wow that is so pretty. Great scrapy quilt and it is a shame to call it that looks like you planned it that way. Beautiful.

dunster 01-25-2014 04:27 PM

Really pretty. The white squares add so much drama to the quilt.

dunster 01-25-2014 04:28 PM

sorry, duplicate.

Your quilt looks so comfy and beautiful!

Great quilt - very rich looking. I am loving some of the limited palette quilts I am seeing.

I don't mind the term "scrappy" at all. I did plan it--it is a planned scrappy with three colors primarily, plus white.

Mariposa 01-25-2014 10:27 PM

Terrific scrappy!! :)

shadoh 01-25-2014 11:12 PM

Beautiful quilt!

JanetP 01-26-2014 04:15 AM

Love this quilt, but don't know if I'd ever attempt such tiny pieces. The colors are wonderful.

Retired Fire Chief 01-26-2014 04:15 AM

Very striking, love the bright white chain, really adds punch to your hard work.

lkahle 01-26-2014 04:22 AM

just beautiful !!!!!!!!!!!!

marsharini 01-26-2014 04:33 AM

Beautiful. Love the colors.

2manyhobbies 01-26-2014 04:34 AM

Just beautiful.

callen 01-26-2014 05:36 AM

The word "scrappy" sure sounds like a misnomer for something so lovely. Beautiful quilt.

JoyjoyMarie 01-26-2014 05:37 AM

Really beautiful quilt. I like the way you grouped your scraps into a "family" of colors, so it is scrappy and yet cohesive - not too fragmented colorwise. And the white accents in this pattern are really nice too. Great job.

DebbieJJ 01-26-2014 05:39 AM

You seem to have an intuitive sense of what to do with scraps! All of your quilts are beautiful!

duckydo 01-26-2014 05:47 AM

Fabulous, love it.. I agree, it makes me want to play in my scraps

Great use of scraps, very pretty quilt, using the white to break up the colors really brightens it up.

OK. I've looked at the pic and can't figure out how you could use 2 1/2" and 1 1/2" squares. Can someone mark the pic so I can see the way it went together please? I don't understand how 2 sizes fit together.

hi Carreen, you might not have seen her post number 31 on page 4, where she posted her graph/pattern. It helps to see the larger 2 1/2 square sewn to the individual square of the smaller 1 1/2" squares. Hope this helps? The post number is in the corner of each reply, yours shows #62, go back and look for that post and you'll see the graph. I can't get my computer to work with me to highlight the pic to break it down for you, or I would. Sorry, it's giving me fits this morning. LOL!

LOVE leftovers and it is an awesome quilt.

Jitterbug 01-26-2014 06:46 AM

This is a beautiful quilt. I love scrap quilts, and this one is so blended, without it being garishly scrappy. As to the name of the pattern, back a few generations, we called this one "stepping stone" Irish Chain. I don't know what the "new" name would be now . Seems that new names keep popping up for older patterns these days. Anyway, I this is beautiful. Thank you for sharing.

I'll show you.

There are two ways to do it. I actually did it the harder way by making two different blocks. One was a the one with the chain and the other was a 16 patch.

Like this:

the larger squares start at 2.5" and the smaller ones at 1.5"

But I think the original one that I copied was like this: However, I had started by making 16 patches without planning it out til the end, so I ended up making it like the first one.

Here is another option:

Once again: The larger blocks are 2.5" (to start with) and the smaller are 1.5" (to start with). Make enough and you will end up with a quilt top that looks similar to the one I did with the whites in a little bit different spot.

This second layout makes the quilt like I did, a 9x10 grid, look like this as one possible scenario:

Very nice colorful quilt. Makes me feel like i should be making one for me instead of charity quilts.

I think that's probably a good idea. This one turned out even better than the picture shows. I am hoping when the weather is better that we will be able to get a better picture. The colors are vibrant and really nice. It's a warm, cozy quilt top. Hopefully even better once it is quilted.

KarenJ 01-26-2014 08:40 AM

This is terrific. Love it!

What a dramatic looking quilt - I really like the white squares on the quilt - gives it a lot of "pop"
