Now that many of you have helped me understand Lil Twister, here is my work in progress. This is fabric that was donated to me so I try to do the best that I can to match colors etc. Once I learned how to do this pattern the hardest part was cutting around the little template. I don't have a lot of room to work and so I felt like I was all thumbs.

Very pretty- I love your colors and the pattern. Thank you for sharing.

AngieS 01-05-2011 01:58 PM

Nice! I have the lil twister. Haven't used it yet.

I love your colors. Cute wall hanging. Once you get use to the tool it's really fun and quick for a gift.

AngieS 01-05-2011 02:05 PM

My only problem is how in the world do you know how to put it back together?!!!! LOL

Cyn 01-05-2011 02:09 PM

Beautiful!

BizzieLizzie 01-05-2011 02:13 PM

Lovely.

PegD 01-05-2011 02:17 PM

Yeah! You did it. I have yet to try it.

If you really fall in love with Lil Twister, I recommend you purchase the rotary cutter mat that rotates (sort of like a lazy susan). The old stile wobbled but this newer style is great!

I used one of my 1/2 off coupons at Joann's and it was still a bit pricy. They come in two sizes and I bought the smaller one. Now I'm thinking about the larger one but even at 1/2 price its almost $40!

I do like the smaller one though. It really makes it easy to manipulate around the block without moving the block. You can get a similary effect by placing a smaller mat on a larger one and rotating the smaller mat but it's not nearly as nice (or fun) as this new to me notion!

Several folks on this board helped me do that. Sadly the instructions with the template needed to be a little more exact.

Peggy

I have just made 6 Lil Twister lap quilts and then went out and purchased a rotating cutter mat LOL. Spent yesterday sandwiching all the quilts ready for quilting.

Nana2Sew 01-05-2011 03:39 PM

Other than using the rotating mat, you can trace around the ruler and then cut it out with scissors. This helped me when I used fabric squares that were not quite 5"X5". Using the rotary cutter, I might have cut into the next block. Hope this helps.....

Very pretty, I like your choice of colors for it. Mine is still in the package, need to put it to use one of these days.

If you cut one row at a time & sew these new blocks before you cut the next row, you should be ok.

SaraSewing 01-05-2011 07:52 PM

great! I liked seeing the before and after. It's amazing how much smaller they get.

sewwhat85 01-05-2011 09:19 PM

i need to get one of those

Kayaker26 01-06-2011 05:37 AM

There was a thread on here to make them, and I am in the process, yesterday made and cut apart a 10 inch square for a lap quilt I think. Maybe I'll be brave and post the pics when I finish.

4girlsmimi 01-06-2011 05:54 AM

Very pretty.

very nice fabric selection

Maggie_1963 01-06-2011 06:46 AM

How pretty! Love the colors, and I have not seen the little twister, love that pattern!

That's a beautiful block!

I have the lil' twister wreath in progress. They are fun to do but leave a lot of scraps. I end up cutting one direction and they walking around my table to cut the other direction. I cut one row at a time and put the blocks on my design wall. Helps keep them in order.

wvdek 01-06-2011 07:48 AM

That is so pretty.

IBQLTN 01-06-2011 08:06 AM

I've forgotten, do you start with 5" blocks?

(I was going to buy this ruler for me for Christmas and forgot. LOL)

Did you have to buy a different pattern to make a Lil Twister wreath, or did you just play with the pieces until you got it?

Zephyr 01-06-2011 08:56 AM

I used 5" block because it said so, and I used a 3" border. But it seems that you can make a 9 patch or a 4 patch etc. depending on what you are making. There are certainly folks who know and have tried it.

Thanks Zephyr - I've seen a pattern somewhere for the wreath, I just don't remember where.

Check this out for Twister Wreath step-by-step photos.
I haven't done one yet, but the layout of the colors, seems to determine the final pattern.

Thanks for sharing the picture. I have a liltwister and will use it soon for the first time. Thanks for the inspiration!

ewecansew 01-06-2011 10:53 AM

I do the same as Nana2Sew---draw around the template and cut with scissors or rotary cutter. -- Less chance of cutter going too far and cutting the next square

Thanks, LindaBN, I'm thinking ahead to some sort of Spring wreath.
