Little House Pin Cushion
3 Attachment(s)
Since my sewing machine didn't weather the Harvey/reservoir flooding very well (5 days in a wet environment and then a month in the garage made it seriously cranky), so I had to get a new one, which led to wanting to make new accessories for it. :p
While I was looking around on the net for something different in the pin cushion realm I came across this you tube video by Baby Lock, I thought a house was rather apropros since making a new one is because of what happened to our house. After watching the video I just free-handed it with as many polka dots fabrics as I had on hand, and threw on a gingham roof just because I like that combination, and quilted and appliqued it. Thanks for listening and looking. :) Front: Back: Side(s): |
That is so cute! You did a wonderful job.

Just adorable! So happy for you that you were able to get a new machine. What did you end up getting?
|
Very cute.

Cute house!
|
That's adorable!
|
'Tis looks great - and much nicer than hers! I've watched the video but where is the link for the pattern? Also I can't see if she mentions what she has attached the fabric to to make it thicker (it almost looks like felt?). I enjoy been looking to donapincushin project and this may be it!

Sew very cute!!!
|
Absolutely adorable. Was it time-consuming? I think it would make an adorable present for a gift exchange. (I would need to make ten). Or, maybe a gift to me (probably more realistic). Very, very cute.

That's adorable! Sorry you lost your machine and whatever else due to Mom Nature :(
|
I just took a quick look at the video and your house is so much cuter.
|
Yea, yours turned out very nice. I need a better pincushion too and have considered the Chicken I've seen but this might be easier for my sewing abilities!! Thanks for sharing this and the video.
|
This is so cute and the shape makes it easy to stick pins into.
|

That is adorable. But sorry about your losses.

Your house is just adorable. So glad you are back into sewing after your flooding incident. So awful for so many.

That is so adorable. So sorry to hear about your water soaked machine. You are very creative.

Cute pin cushion. Are you able to be in your home now?

Thanks everyone, you're all so sweet! It took me a few days to do the pin cushion, some of that because I redid some of the pieces, mismeasured when trimming and had to remake a piece (the usual lol), but I did enjoy doing it.
I replaced the small Janome with a Brother sewing and quilting machine, I didn't think I should spend much at all on a replacement with all the expenses we incurred after the flood but this one came with an extension table, a walking and hopping foot, the needle can be moved left or right - I thought it was a good deal and I like it a lot, I call it my woo-woo machine because that's what it sounds like when sewing at a slow speed. We are back in the house and everything is about finished, the garage still smells unlovely but with all the rain we've had lately I haven't been able to scrub it down yet, but will get to it soonly. Oh, if you click on the 'Show More' under the description below the video it has the link to the pattern. I'd love to see pics if anyone else makes this pin cushion, it's a fun project that you can get creative with. Since I didn't look at the pattern I don't know what she used to back the fabric, fusible foam maybe? I just used Hobbs 80/20 with muslin as the backing and put small pieces of cardboard along the insides before stuffing so it didn't become a puffball. I did add a backing to the underside of the roof when I bound it and stuffed it so I wouldn't be fighting stuffing above the side when hand sewing the last seam. Sorry for running off at the mouth with all the details. lol |
So very cute! Glad you're back at creating!

As a pin cushion collector I say ...it’s great. Just sewed myself the
“ Quilt Police Doll” pincushion. Had the fabric panel for few yrs then lost it but managed to find who sold them...so now I bought 2. |
I just LOVE it!! going to search out the video and see if I can find it. LOVE pincushions and haven't seen that one. thanks for sharing
