We lived in the desert without AC and I was taught to use the old cowboy trick of the damp cloth on the back of the neck. This was one of the 2 main reasons they all had bandanas! You would be amazed at how well it works when you are sitting at the machine or cutting table - not dripping wet, just cool and damp.
