I wanted to make a quilt for the lady that I have been caring for, she asked for a log cabin in autumn colours, thanks to my fabric angels on here, charity shop finds and ebay I have found around 80/100 different fabrics to make a scrappy uneven log cabin. I will probably do an appliqued vine in the neutral sections, laying out in the barn raising design.

After my disaste r with the 'Foundation by the yard' I searched on ebay and found a roll of 30cm x 25m light non-iron vilene, got it for £6.50 inc. P&P!!which I will now use to foundation piece each block (just means I have to trace the pattern out 48 times!!) but at least it saves me hours of ripping out paper!!

Beautiful!

I don't sew mine on a foundation.

vintagemotif 11-11-2010 01:02 PM

That is a very pretty block.

Your block is beautiful

Lynnie25 11-11-2010 01:08 PM

The block is very pretty. I use non-iron vilene for all my foundation piecing and have even hand quilted quilts foundation pieced this way.

This is going to be beautiful. Nice work.

I think this will work beautifully, it is firm but very light, much more than if the 'Foundation by the Yard' had been printed correctly, it was much heavier and would have added a lot of bulk to the quilt

I started with mainly foresty greens and woody browns, but soon got bored with those and started cutting up brighter greens, golds, oranges and basically anything else I could lay my hands on that sort of blended, it will be very scrappy, I just kept throwing them in a pile on the floor and imagining it to be a pile of autumn leaves until I was happy with the mix LOL!!

Nice colour mix. Interested to see progress pics.

That's easy, she is a wonderful lady!! I was caring for her full time until my DH fell ill with cancer back in February, I have only been back to see her a couple of times since as she lives over 200 miles from me, but we keep in touch by phone. She used to do patchwork many years ago and has been totally fascinated by all the new techniques, the reason I decided to use vilene and foundation piece this block, was so that we can hand sew some of the blocks together while I am visiting her, we love to do things together
