:-) :-) :-) Well I got my last point done on my lone star and I laid it out os you can get an idea how it will look once it is sewn together. Now! I need to get ideas from you all about what the back ground should be. Should I use a dark fabric or a light back ground such a s a biege or a dark beige. Any ideas???? Mom and Sis and I went ot the Joann Fabrics not too long ago looking at the diffrent colors of fabric and laid one of the points on top of the fabric to get ideas. I was just thinking since I have it laid out maybe more ideas would come to mind. Thanks in advance, Huggies, Fay

I vote for lighter. Guess it boils down to your personal preference.

Do I see a row of lavender in there? If so I think that would be pretty. Otherwise I would go with the yellow you used. :D

sharon b 07-27-2010 10:11 AM

I vote lighter, i am afraid some of the points would get lost in the dark. Also make sure the light is a different tone from the light in the star for the same reason

GREAT JOB

It's going to be beautiful.
I like a lighter background, maybe the light beige.

ME TOO!

Could you use light blue and then borders of the dark colors?

mygirl66 07-27-2010 11:11 AM

Lighter around the star, dk blue boarder!

QuiltingTurtle 07-27-2010 11:21 AM

I really think that light yellow would make a beautiful background.

I put in search box lone star quilt and then on top of the searched page are some words, if you click on images you will find pictures of lone star quilts. The quilt by Northern star has similar coloration as yours. A yellow/beige was used for background and a dark checked for the border. Hope this helps.

Ritzquilts 07-27-2010 11:45 AM

Lighter background too

AlienQuilter 07-27-2010 11:46 AM

It's going to be beautiful!

May I suggest that you lay it on top of a light colored sheet to see how it looks and if you have a solid dark sheet or even a large piece of fabric that's dark to lay it on top of to see how it looks.

Do I see red in one of those fabrics? Try laying it on top of a red piece of fabric and see if the star pops!

Thank you for this link I added it to my favorites so I can look at them. I did look through some of the pictures and did get some great ideas. There are pages of beautiful lone star quilts. Mine is going to be a twin size and I wanted to put a smaller star in the corners and then maybe a nice boarder. I'm going to look through more pictures after awhile. Thanks again all of you, Huggies, Fay

Yep. Same here. It's beautiful by the way.

I'm all for going with the purple tones, either the lighter one in the tip piece plaid or the deeper almost burgandy tone in the other plaid further down in the body of the star. Those blues will really pop against those reddish/blue tones.

jljack 07-27-2010 02:43 PM

Beautiful Lone Star!! I like the plaid a lot!! Good luck. All those suggestions will work...now it's your choice!! :-)

Luv Quilts and Cats 07-27-2010 02:45 PM

I think lighter would be better...a light sky blue maybe.

kristen0112 07-27-2010 02:49 PM

It's turning out beautiful! Someone posted this link on a topic yesterday I have had fun playing with it. It might help you decide on what back ground color to use. I personally would use a purple or a darker yellow than what is in the star. I don't think your points will get lost if the contrast is high.

Well I downloaded the colorschemedesigner thing to use off line, but I can't find it any where and even did a search for it in my computer and there is nothing in there and I downloaded it twice. Sure wish it could have made an icon on the desktop so no way to use it off line for me Grrr. Thanks for the link any way. I don't really understand how to use it tho with out the star on it. I wonder if my picture can be loaded onto it. Have a great day, Huggies, Fay

galvestonangel 07-27-2010 06:59 PM

think it depends on the look you are going for. My suggestion would be to try red, or shades of orange to make it vibrant. If you want a calmer look, I would go lighter but with a color that would not wash out the cream color you have. Maybe a white or very light blue. Good luch on whatever you decide, it will be a beautiful quilt.

Can you use it online? I don't know of a way to load your star on to it. But what you do is pick your color, it looks like your main color in the star was blue. You click on that then underneath the color wheel are some buttons, mono, contrast, triad, tetrad, analogic. If you click on the blue color and have the MONO selected it will give you four shades of blue on the right side of the color wheel. If you select one of the button under the color wheel it will give you your blue but other colors in the wheel that would look good with your selection. Under the color options window is another set of buttons, called VARIATIONS: Default, Pastel, Dark Pastel, Light Pastel, Contrast, & Pale. If you select your blue color on the wheel, then click on triad, then under the color options click on light pastels it will change your original options to shades in pastel. IT's A REALLY cool TOOL. I hope you can play with it at some point. And again I would go with a bright yellow or purple as your background that is what the color wheel suggested under Tetrad, color scheme.

Thanks,, I added it to my favorites and then maybe tomorrow I will lay out the star where I can see it from the computer and dink around with the tool. I was just playing with it and I clicked on some of hte oranges and found a nice light brownish tan that might look good and I played with other ides too. going to play with it some more tomorrow. Have a great day, Huggies, Fay

If you're thinking of putting stars in the corners you might look at Broken Stars. It is a lot more work though. I just think it's pretty. My aunt made one: old-style. Tracing the template with a pencil, cutting out by hand, sewing together by hand and then quilting by hand...I'm glad I was born when I was!

You can also check out this link to see lots of pictures. If not on this quilt, maybe another! I'm in the process of making a Lone Star and may never make another one!

Might I suggest white? That way none some of your lighter colours would have definition. Let us see what you decide...looks exciting!

katsewnsew 07-28-2010 03:32 AM

I say go with stark white!!! I feel the colors will pop out better, star points will show up great and you can use any color in the star for the binding! MHO

Pineapple Princess 07-28-2010 09:28 AM

Lighter! :)
