well actually she's the daughter of my dear friend but we call each other niece and aunt.

any way she's 4 (she'll be 5 in 2 months) and she made this table runner and 8 placemats for her mother's birthday next month.

i did all the rotary cutting and i only worked the pedal on the sewing machine because she couldn't reach the pedal.

she fed the fabric thru the sewing machine and kept an excellent 1/4 seam.

its a cheater fabric (she didn't sew the hexagons) but i'm still really proud of her.

i made the log cabin quilt to give to her mom for her birthday. its from the same fabric line so everything matches.

i'll do all the quilting - she said that she wasn't ready yet for quilting.

placemats - she made a total of 8

You pair make a great team!!!! What lovely gifts they are.

Marcia 05-30-2009 05:33 PM

She did a great job and must have a really long attention span for a child her age to accomplish all that in one day.

Kj05 05-30-2009 05:49 PM

Very impressive! And way to start her at a young age!

littlehud 05-30-2009 05:54 PM

What a talented little girl. A quilter in the making.

gaigai 05-30-2009 06:14 PM

Looks like you have a great protege! She did a great job, and only 5? My, my, she is one talented kiddo. To match "Auntie" of course!

I couldn't help noticing that your quilt matched your other helper too! At least in the photo! LOL

kluedesigns 05-30-2009 07:05 PM

i couldn't believe she had the attention span to finish in one day too.

we would sew for 90 minutes and then play 3 games of air hockey.

i started her with pillows about 3 months ago. then about 1 month ago i taught her to make the origami purse (the link is on this forum).

she made 2 origami purses (1 for each grandmother). her and her mom each have 1 too - so all 4 ladies have the same handbag for when they have lunch together.

when we were done with the quilting she picked out a bunch of ribbons and some batik fabrics because she wants to make a woven ribbon handbag next time she comes over for her mom.

i just adore her. she's very mature for her age. she does a little show called "samantha on the spot"

RedGarnet222 05-31-2009 12:12 PM

Four years old???!!! You are braver than I would be with my niece that is going to be four soon.

I love the colors and the honeycomb pattern is so nice with the runner and placemat set.

I also really like your log cabin quilt top you made. All very nice, klue.

Elsie 05-31-2009 12:16 PM

that nice job she did hope she will do quilting when she older it always nice a kid do thing they have talent

kluedesigns 05-31-2009 12:48 PM

she'll be an artist of some sort - i'm sure of it.

her father is my DH's business partner - they are producers and songwriters. her mother is an actress and i'm a fiber artist.

art has surrounded her every single day of her life.
